I usually don't visit the forums but just recently got a "warning" for TOS violation. I was hoping if anyone could help me contact someone who looks over this matter, I'd be grateful. Thanks
[QUOTE="subrosian"][QUOTE="visceron"]Anyone ever have a CPU die (not from overclocking)? Can anyone tell me what happens when it does die? Does the system post and tell you the cpu is bad, or lockup while posting, or will it fail to post all together?visceron
The system will not boot up properly - all of your fans will spin, but you will simply have a black screen, and no, it doesn't post. Just curious, since I have had my processor overclocked for about 2 and 1/2 years. Its only over clocked from 2.66GHz to 3.0GHz and the voltage is barely increased so I am not too worried. Just wanted to know what to expect if it does die.
Refer to your motherboard manual. There are certain signals that the motherboard sends if it cannot detect certain parts. Forexample, there are a certain number of beeps that some motherboards give if they can't detect a VGA card or a keyboard. In other circumstances, you won't see any display on the monitor if the CPU doesnt work on a POST ( Power On Self Test ).
it really depends on the specific set and your own personal prefs. i have an lcd and i love it. my folks have a plasma which they love but to me the picture looks grainy.. best advice is to shop around and decide what you like by looking at lots of setscomp_atkins
Agree to that, I've got a Sharp LCD HDTV and an HP plasma. The picture of LCD looks good in the living room where most people can see it from the front. Plasma is also good, but not good for your electricity bills.
Overclocking does not decrease your CPU life. It's a myth. I've had a P4 2.4ghz northwood overclocked to 2.66 and it ran for 7 years without a problem. Even new motherboards by ASUS (e.g M4a79T Deluxe) come with overclocking tools. You might need to have good cooling systems and a steady power-supply though. Above that, usually after every three years or so, you'll feel the need to eventually upgrade, so no need to worry about a lifespan that much...
