The controls felt clunky especially the way magic was implemented was useless, the combat just was not as fast paced as DMC and did not flow as well. Every fight in Ninja Gaiden was a fight for your life and I never really got the feeling I was a badass Ninja.

This is EXACTLY the reason why NG rules. If you felt like you weren't in control of the situation, it's ahem...due to a lack of skills. Once you master NG, there is NOTHING quite like it. You will need to know every move Ryu has up his arsenal. This game is so much deeper than any of the DMC games if you're willing to go the extra mile that is. NG is not a game for the masses but for people who have played games all their life and are bored with games which offer no/little challenge. I loved DMC3 for that reason as well, but it still holds no candle to NG...
