Well, this is my first blog here, lets hope it's not the last. So this week
GDC has been happening and seems like some good news has appeared for there. First, I'll look at Nintendo's big news. Many were hoping for some news on what else the Revolution controller could do, or what name Nintendo is taking for their 5th console. Some even after a glance at games or hoping for some playable demos. Well we did get some Nintendo Revolution news, but to me, the news was totally unexpected at the time. So what the Revolution got? Mega Drive/Geneis and TurboGrafx games will appear on Nintendo's Virutal Console. Sadly (well...actually good job), only the best of each system will be able to be downloaded on the Revolution.
This news developed a smile on my face, a big one, too big infact. I always wanted Geneis games on the Revolution, and now my dream has come true. It is a winning idea. But on the other side of things, aren't we getting too retro for our own good? It's great and all having all these games. Heck I welcome them with open arms. But, as much as old games are a great idea, I think some overkill has happened over the years with the many collections of older games from old companies or series. Even with that thought, I know I'll have a SD card full of retro games for my Revolution.
Next from Nintendo was another surprise. Well, only a surprise cause of the time and place. Nintendo showed us what Zelda would be like on the Nintendo Ds. Not only does it have a 3-D engine, but it's cel shaded like Wind Waker and in the over head position of the 2-D Zelda games. Awesome, just what I wanted! (no sarcasm). I can't wait (even though I most likely will being from the Uk). I liked the cel shading in Wind Waker and I think its a great idea for the new Zelda to like that. Maybe carring on the story from Wind Waker?
I would talk about Sony's news even if I respect them, but there really wasn't anything they said that made me want a Ps3. I see the Ps3 as a system that will be really successful...come on, it's ficken Sony for crying out load. But looking at the Ps3, so far it's not for me at all. Well...there was one thing...Region free gaming! Yay! Awesome idea for importers. Thanks Sony.
So now, to finish this off, I'll talk about the game I'm playing now. Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean. Less comments about the name the better huh? So yeah, I've been 9-10 hours though the game so far. It's a game I've been after for a while now and once I saw it in a second hand store, it had to be mine. So how is it you might ask (if your bothered). Yeah, I'm really enjoying the game right now. The battle system is, well different. You use cards, but its not like any other game with cards in. But I can understand why people might be put off it. It does become a quick system that is also has to have some thought behind it too. For example, you can't just place cards down one after each other. Well...you could but there might be some problems. Best way to talk about it is that you have 2 phases in battle, attack and defend. And 3 types of cards. Attack, defend and staus and healing. You can only place a certain type of card at a time though. Of coruse, attacking phase you can attack and heal, but you cant use defensive cards, and one defense you can only use cards with a defence stat'. It is a pretty simple system with is good, but really theres a problem. You'll find yourself having a hand of card in which you can't use. It gets really annoying if it happens when you are in your attack phase as, you just can't attack and your hand is filled with denfence cards that can only be used if your attacked or want to waste the card in your attack phase with ends your turn.
Aside from that, the pre-rended graphics look beautful and I really like the music. Story is jsut normal rpg stuff.
Anyway, I'm off now.
