Should have posted this first.

When you have a router and other network equip. (pc) on a working network and go to add (xbox 360) and it doesn't work DO NOT START CHANGING NETWORK SETTINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to the System tab on the dash and then go to network, then test connection.

ALSO check XBOX web site and make sure your router is compatable with xboxlive.

IF ITS NOT BROKEN DONT FIX IT.

this is the error:

"an update is available for your console from xbox live," "(yes, update now)"

"UPDATE FAILED"

cant download update, please teste connection in System>Network Settings, Try Again, and if the problem persists go to www.xbox.com/support"

try putting the firewall settings on low, and if it doesn't work then try switching the router. hope that helps. cripplezsbp90

I got the same thing when i was signing up to XBL for the first time, turns out i had to change the settings for the firewall on my modem.cripplezsbp90

well i just bought my Xbox 360 yesterday and i went to recover my old xbox live account from my old xbox so i can use it on my 360... but before i can it says i have to update my Xbox Live... so i click "yes, id like to update" and then i get an error saying i should check my network settings and if that doesnt work (it doesnt work) i should go to xbox.com/support... and i couldent find anytihng there... so i was wondering what is the problem and if you guys could help me?
