Skyrims coming! Yeah can't wait, booked the weekend off and am really looking forward to getting lost in another Elder Scrolls realm. Still recall the magic that was Morrowind that I first played on the big old Xbox original. Still can't forget the feeling of the fat controller in my hand and the sound of another one of those blasted cliff racers heading for me as i messed about outside Balmoral. "Make it quick, stranger". Happy days. Then came Oblivion. Now, I am not an expert. I have played a few rpgs, Baldurs Gate, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights, but I had never experienced anything quite as free and as open as Morrowind. And now, here was Oblivion. But something was wrong.....I couldn't tell you what it was but somehow, Oblivion just wasn't quite as "Magical"? as Morrowind. I couldn't tell you why. But something changed after a while, and Oblivion got boring? Something that has never happened with Morrowind, at least not for me. Maybe, if I had played Oblivion first I'd think differently.THought I'd replay Oblivion now that I have a PS3 and so I have purchased the GotY Edition to get lost again in an Elder Scrolls realm before Skyrim lands.
(But for me, I wish they would remake Morrowind for the modern platforms. Not to change anything, just to transfer it on to the new platforms. Least I could then put my Old Xbox away.....and my XP pc!)
I had similar feelings when I played New Vegas. I loved Fallout3. Still playing it today. Marvellous game, but New Vegas? I just don't get it. Its different and somehow not as beguiling. And Please, don't even start with Red Dead Redemption. Game of the year it may be but I didn't get it. Played it for a good few days and waited for something to happen. Still waiting. I keep putting the game back when I get that urge to be a cowboy and then, another Evening spent waiting. It looks amazing, you can do so much but its as dry as the landscape its set in, in my humble. so Come On, November 11th, bring on Skyrim! Be as good as, if not, better than Morrowind.
