On sale for $29.99!! (after $20 mail-in rebate). Have you ever seen this in an advertisement for a retail store? Lately it seems like every time I see something I want that is on sale, there will be the small text below that says "after mail-in rebate." I get pissed off every time I see that. Why? Because I don't trust mail-in rebates. I've never, ever gotten a mail-in rebate back. I bought a $300.00 car stereo for my 1993 Pontiac Grand Am GT (which is now in the junkyard) several years ago and I was supposed to get a $50 mail-in rebate. I never got it. And by the time I realized I never got it, I had totally forgotten about the rebate in the first place and I just didn't care anymore since it was years ago.
Have you had any bad (or good) experiences with mail-in rebates? My most recent one was for $3.00 off a 100-pack of CD-Rs at Micro Center. I never got my 3 bucks but it's no big deal since I knew I wasn't going to get it and the CDs were cheap anyway. I remember a long time ago they had some investigative news story about mail-in rebates on one of my local news stations. I think I remember them saying you have to call and constantly harass the company if you want your mail-in rebate. I could be wrong but that's what I took from the story.
I always check out the weekly ads of your big box retailers, such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Target and others, for good deals and in the past few weeks, the sales have been pretty decent. I haven't noticed as many mail-in rebates. Maybe it's because Christmas is coming up so they decide to give the best sales possible. I hope that Green Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) brings some great deals on video games, movies, music and anything else I'm looking to purchase.
