GirlUntold Blog

My 2 Cents

You might not have heard from me recently in my blog or even when watching On the Spot, but I can gurantee that I keep looking at the site, its reviews, and its other content.

So what do I think about Jeff being fired? Well, to put simply, from what I've read and what's being speculated, I have only this to say:

Fire Josh Larson, or consider GameSpot fired. Not my decision.

Level Up! Episode 2 Podcast is Now Available

Give the show a listen and let me know what you guys think.

Personally, I felt that I stumbled on my words a bit too much, but I'll get better over time. Unfortunately due to the rotation of seats, I won't be back in until October. There's another project I'm working on in the meantime with Julia. I have to learn more about flash though...bah. Oh well, for the good of the site :)

In the meantime, I just got Heroes of Mana today and will be playing it like crazy in order to get a good review out of it for AllRPG. School start's next week for me, my job very shortly, and I still have lots to do for the site. Don't expect much sleep out of me ;p

Learning, Books, Hairs, and LOTS of videos. Oh, and Podcast news.

Had a fun week this week for a few reasons. First, I received a LOT of books from the library. Why I ordered so many at once, I may never know, but here's the full list:

CSS: The Missing Manua (O'Reilly)

Secret of Videoblogging

Videoblogging for Dummies

Web Cams for Dummies

Programming PHP (O'Reilly)

XHTML By Example

Sam's Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Day (got this before, but only made it about a quarter of a way through before I had to return it)

And Mortal Kombat (movie, not a book :P )Library List

I also ended up having to return Street Fighter without seeing the whole thing because the DVD decided to skip to the end halfway through. I was actually kind of excited watching it too, despite the UN (or whatever the hell they called themselves) actually having weapons. Fiction though, gotta remember it's fiction.

I'm not sure where to start with my books. So many choices @__@

The jury duty I had was cancelled. I should be starting work soon enough now with only school interference. AllRPG will have to come last, but I'll still be giving it my all out effort and free time.

Speaking of the site, I finally did a Podcast. Didn't get a chance to do the first one (which is up on the site right now), but that's ok as long as I get my chances. I'll be sure to blog the moment the next podcast gets posted, which should be either tomorrow or Monday. In the meantime, have a look at the site's news roundup for the week (written up by yours truly this week) along with RPG footage for the week (again, me, and as always, with non-RPG picks at the end).

Oh, I also got my haircut to about my ears. Looks rather nice and curlish. I don't feel like reposting any pictures, so just check out this thread for before and afters (sn JackiJinx, in case no one still knows; halfway down the page).

Videos and such? I do have some, like I promised. All of these I already posted on Facebook already, but here we go:

Puppy Whistle, COLLEGE TOOLBOX: 60+ Tools For Back To School, Pirates and Ninjas Faceoff in Dodgeball Video Game (there's also a Sumo vs Ninja puzzle game for mobile phones that should be out right now, believe it or not), and this is the most important of all. First, watch this video the whole way through, and once you've managed to cleanse your eyes of that madness, stare at the original singer doing it right.

That should keep you all occupied for some time. If not, I hope Mike Tyson's hiding in your closet, hungry for lobes :(

*YAWNS* I'm Awake! I Swear It!

Not much has gone on this week, which's fairly disappointing to everyone, I'm sure.

Finally got the job at Chuck E Cheese! I'll be doing machine maintenance, meaning refilling and emptying game machines of tokens and tickets while fixing jams kids make with tokens along probably a number of other things. I won't be able to workright away though because I'm scheduled for jury duty next week. Best timing ever, I can assure you :(

Finished the final Harry Potter book today...finally. In all my years, it was the first book I've ever cried while reading. Hell, the only movie I've ever cried over is Babel and that's because I could really relate to the deaf girl at the end.

Still learning CSS and am just getting into tables (HATE tables in HTML). I'm still waiting for the other more useful books to arrive at the library. Dummies books can only go so far when it comes to learning, afterall.

I've been thinking about this for awhile, and have decided to list off what games I still need to finish. Some of these I haven't really touched at all while others I just have to kick the final boss to the curb. Either way, it's all a laziness factor:

Eternal Darkness

Chibi Robo

Legend of Zelda: Four Swords

Luigi's Mansion

Pikmin

Super Mario Sunshine

Super Monkey Ball 2

Secret of Evermore

Earthbound

Ogre Battle 64

Goldeneye 007

Golden Sun

Final Fantasy III

Harry Potter and the Socerer's Stone (GB)

King's Quest V and VI

Trauma Center: Second Opinion

Super Paper Mario

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Black and White 2

...Black and White (a friend's borrowing it)

Never Winter Nights

Dreamfall

Okami (before I have to return it)

The twenty or so demos on my computer. List

There's a few titles here that I've never finished, but will make no effort to do so. I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy Legend III, you complete bore, you.

Then there's the few titles I need to rebuy in order to use. Might and Magic Millinieum Edition...why'd the install discs have to all get scratched? Why?!

I can't wait to get the money for a 360. I'm tired of having pretty much a Nintendo only library. It absolutely kills me because it makes me look like a fan girl and I'm not. It all factors down to what my family thought was ok to buy for my brother and me, and that's naturally all Nintendo up until we got in our teens. The PS2 we owned, as I've mentioned in previous blogs, was co-owned between my brother and I, so when he moved out, he paid for the rest of his half along with all the glorious FF and other RPG/tactic titles and took it with him.

I'm going to get all those Sony games again, but have been contemplating about going ahead and buying a PS2 or wait for a serious drop on the PS3. Decisions...

For your entertainment, I have for you a "fan fic" this week from an AllRPG member, Balthier. The story is about a new member navigating herself around the site and forums for the first time. The star of this fan fic? So far, it seems to be mostly me, JackiJinx, and it's actually quite funny (imagine me thinking something involving me is entertaining! Oh, lawlz).

The first post needs explaining slightly. For a brief period of time, there was a forum feature that let members thank other members for their posts and the thanks would show up directly underneath the post. Some members felt it necessary to thank every member as a protest to this feature. It became disruptive to the point where it was taken down. That should be all that needs explaining.

No videos for this week, sorry. I'll be sure to find something interesting for my next post though. Promise ;)

The Dream is Falling

Now that my family is finally back from vacation, I can give everyone some wonderful advice: don't play Dreamfall when you're home alone for a week. Dreamfall is proving to be quite a beautiful and moving game so far, but it's got some scare value. The game starts with a somewhat depressed young adult, Zoe, that doesn't have much going on in her life. That alone kinda reminds me of myself, but the fact that she gets the house to herself for a week makes is so much worse, especially once her father steps one foot out of the house, the worst $@%# seems to go down. Playing this game alone in the middle of the night wasn't exactly the easiest experience for me to say the least, but I've made it out alive so far :P

I believe I neglected to mention this, but my good friend decided to do a trade of games temporarily. In exchange for her PS2, Okami, Tekken, 4, a few Konami rhythm games that I can't play properly due to her having the dance pads (curse you), Fantavision, and some movie title in exchange for *drumroll* my N64 copy of The New Tetris. I think it's a pretty fair deal considering she's the one who offered 8)

I don't have very much else to say right now except that I witnessed the first episode of the Legend of Zelda series. I...well...huh. There are no words I can fathom right now that could possibly describe how much is completely wrong with just that one episode. I need to do a history lesson on the rights of LoZ so I know who to blame for this and the Jaguar mess.

Interesting material time: AllRPG is currently having a member auction, so anyone wanting to buy me or any other member should look at this (I'm JackiJinx). For more immediate pleasure, take a look at this VGN trailer. I'm specifically picking this one out because 1) Someone I know, Devon, is in it looking like he's being his usual self and 2) ...revver doesn't seem to want me to view the full footage on Screw Attack. Trying to figure out why that is. And an oldie, but a goodie.

The Library is My Friend

I just went to the library to pick up some items I ordered from other libraries and I felt like sharing what I got.

First, two books on Sony. One is called The Story of Sony and is roughly the size of three children's picture books (includes a giant picture of Celine Dion and an even bigger one of Tom Cruise) while the other is The Rough Guide to the PSP, a book that might be able to sit in a big pocket and one I probably wouldn't mind having there either. Granted I do not own a Sony system at this time, but I will in the future and it doesn't hurt to know more about the technology.

I also received two DVDs to help further my gaming education. Street Fighter the movie and The Complete Animated Series of The Legend of Zelda. What sucks about library movie rentals is that I have quite a limited number of time to enjoy them, and for an entire series, I get three days to watch them all. Joy of joys since I have the feeling I'll be busy this weekend. As for Street Fighter, I get a whole seven days to "enjoy" it. Man, I can hardly wait.

I did happen to get something non-game related, believe it or not. Cascading Style Sheets For Dummies came today and it makes me happy to learn a skill I only know enough about to edit premade MySpace layout. Hopefully, the other book I got on HTML and CSS will come in soon so I can expand my knowledge a bit more on HTML as well. Generally speaking, I know quite a bit of HTML, but my knowledge needs some refinement.

There are a number of other sources the library system has when it comes to video game careers, but I'm very disappointed in the selection on history. Most of the books I've found try in feeble attempts to rate games while providing either an extremely dull and/or childish look at the history of gaming. I need to take-out that book on war gaming again, it seems : /

By the way, not many people realize this, but more and more libraries lend out games. From mine, I've taken out Oblivion (only had time to play it for a few hours though. Le Sigh.) and a few CSI games. There are non-PC titles available also like PS2, GC, even Xbox 360, but nothing that has really caught my attention (that I can play) yet. Still, it's something to bug your librarian over.

Random note- I opened up to the last page of the PSP Guide and I saw the following:

The 25 greatest videogames of all time

1. Battletoads

2. Gauntlet

3. Myst

4. Pro Evolution Soccer

5. Super Mario Brothers

6. Ms. Pac Man

7. Virtua Tennis

8. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!

9. Mortal kombat 3

10. Double Dragon

11. Pyschonauts

12. Tomb Raider

13. Tetris

14. Halo

15. The Legend of Zelda

16. Civilization

17. Pirates!

18. NBA Jam

19. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

20. Tekken Tag Tournament

21. Hard Hat Mack

22. Spy Hunter

23. Snood

24. NHL ' 94

25. Q*Bert Book

Is that not the best list ever?

So I'm Rather Happy Right Now...

And that's because I think I have a job. As long as my background checks out (and it should), I'll be getting a call Saturday and starting next week at Chuck E Cheese as mainly either a greeter or in machine matinence (aka refill machines with tickets and tokens, and fixed jammed tokens). This makes me rather excited.

Just another thing to add, Sunday night I had a bunch of friends over to play video games in yet another celebration for my friend's birthday. Man, just Wario Ware on the Wii and Goldeneye between two experienced and two non-experienced players is quiiiiite a spectacle. It was quite a blast and I wish I had recorded the entire thing. I need to do that again sometime.

I don't really have any new links to show, so I'll pull a random video clip from stuff I've been viewing.

As Promised, Tetris

Review!

Here's a sneak peak in case you need a clicking prompt:

"Tetris started off as a PC title in 1985 from Russia and has since had more variations than Henry VIII had wives. Tetris itself has become a timeless c lassic that refuses to die no matter how many versions are turned out. Among the best Tetris titles available would have to be the one that debuted with the Game Boy back in the summer of 1989 simply known as Tetris."

I had a good time yesterday and evidently will be tomorrow too (actual birthday plans, I suppose). That's pretty much all I have to say for now. If you haven't checked out my last video, I suggest you do for I'm showing off my new webcam skillz.

And the Let Down

Unfortunately, it's not likely that the Tetris review will be done today as promised due to another promise made to a friend much earlier. She's turning 20, so I'm helping her celebrate later this evening (I thought it was going to be a Saturday celebration). I can't put the entire blame on her though because I was out today selling myself to several stores. Most likely I'll have a job at Chuck-E-Cheese after I get interviewed Monday. Also, the blame can be shifted onto my evidently bad time managment (working on it) and another item that I'm waiting to have uploaded.

I have most of my review done right now, but most doesn't mean all. Expect this done tomorrow, and I do mean it. Keep holding that excitement in!

I may have disappointed you today, but hopefully you can all appreciate this.
