I think one of my favorite quotes sums this question up: "Those who love life do not read. Nor do they go to the movies, actually. No matter what might be said, access to the artistic universe is more or less entirely the preserve of those who are a little fed up with the world...." If you truly do love gaming. If you have devoted so much of your life to it, then, quite frankly, you're just a bit tired of what's around you. You're looking for that sudden change and are searching for something better than what's actually around you. Then you will never give up gaming. To be quite honest with you, I think we should all keep gaming true to us, because the future holds so much for games that we should be more excited than anything.
I know, we're going at a rate that's astonishing. We're creating these stunning new devices that make our jaws drop, the video games we're managing to produce are taking us away from this life. But will we ever make the effort to completely re-design what we've come to look upon? Will we manage to create cities as breathtaking as one's seen in Final Fantasy or Mass Effect? From my perspective, I'm sure that we're fully capable of creating these kind of "dreams". Are we no able to produce stunning, futuristic building structures, or is it just a matter of "afraid of change". You have to destroy in order to re-build, so why not take the chance? This is an open question. I am aware that advancing in technology could also very well doom us all, but it's just a thought. Discuss.
I think we all seem to be forgetting the basic determinants of what singles out a specific "hardcore" from the "casual". Everything, from my perspective, really revolves around how you view your schedule and the way you base it around your professional business life. Hardcore should be viewed as somebody that manages their agenda around the priority of games. If part of your day is managed around a game, this should be considered hardcore. Someone that has a raid tonight and cuts out any other part of their timetable to help fit that in no matter what is hardcore. Casual should be viewed as a person that plays games when they can and doesn't center part of their day on a specific thing in gaming to get finished. Just like real life.
Very interesting answers, all of you! I can't believe that I had managed to forget one very important game in this question: Bioshock. That was also one of my favorite video game worlds. It was very immersive, and seeing a big daddy just took me away every time.
Am I the only one that only wants to play story based games at night time? I don't know...I just feel like I'm not as immersed when I have light bouncing all around my room. I can see everything and it really takes me out of the experience. What are your thoughts? How do you play your games?
What do you guys think? What's the best, most memorable game world you've ever experienced. One that made your jaw drop, immersed you so far in that you forgot that it was a game and this was real life. From my personal opinion, having just recently gotten Shadow of the Colossus, I find that to be the best game world I've ever experienced. I have played hundreds of games in my time, but there's just something about SOTC that makes me...feel like I'm not here. I'd really love to hear all your different answers. Perhaps it will give me some insight to check out the games stated throughout the thread. -GOW
Went out and bought myself the refurbished PS2 today. Working fantastic and I'm very happy with it. Unfortunately, I couldn't find Kingdom Hearts anywhere, but I was lucky enough (after hours of searching) to find a rare copy of Shadow of the Collosus with the manual, game box, disc. Not to mention that it's in great condition. Thank you all for your responses!
I want to buy a PS2 for Kingdom hearts and Ico/Shadow of the Colossus. I was looking around, and spotted a $29.99 refurbished PS2 on Gamestop's website: http://www.gamestop.ca/ps2/consoles/ps2-system-gamestop-refurbished/253379\ I don't care if it's brand new. All I want is for it to work long enough for me to beat the four games. Is it worth it? $29.99 is an absolutely ridiculous price in my eyes. I would think there would be something wrong with it. Do I get a warranty? If somebody could answer these questions, I would be very appreciative. -GOW
