Doom2 as far as FPS's go, because it introduced stable multiplayer to the masses. I used to play the first map with my buddy, 1-1 deathmatch, for hours at a time on my old 486. We used to play first one to 100 kills won. Insane.

Duke Nukem 3D is up there too, it was like a roided up version of Doom2, with more destructable environments.

Final Fantasy 2 is the greatest RPG IMO, since it introduced me to the genre. FF3 was the best though (beating FFVII in my eyes - blasphemy, I know).

More recently? I think God of War is up there. Half Life reinvented the tired shooter genre... WoW is earth-shattering in the world of mass-market MMOs... Warcraft 2 for RTS's... Diablo...

Best game EVER though? I think I might go with Mario64... the game that almost failed me out of college.

I say hell yes. I'm the most passive person, and though I don't get pissed at games often there are a few that make me rage.

CoD4 multiplayer tends to make me want to kill things. I don't know about other people, but the way the game handles online synchronization sucks sometimes. I'll shoot a mess of rounds at someone point blank, yet I'll die and the death replay doesn't show me shooting a single bullet, let alone hitting him. I sometimes try to rip my XB360 controller in half, to no avail... yet.

Oh, and Ninja Gaiden Black made me throw a water bottle across the room and put a small hole in my wall. Freakin biotch of a camera angle, especially with hordes of enemies. But beating that game was ridiculously satisfying.

Anyone else?

Renting Resident Evil 1 for the PS and trying to play it without a memory card (we didn't have one and no stores were open at 11pm).

Made it 8 hours too without dying before finally succumbing to a giant plant in the greenhouse. Playing without a memory card was incredibly stupid but made it that much more scary/memorable...Oh, and the hellhounds through the window, of course, were probably the most memorable moment of that gam.

Needless to say, I've never touched RE:1 ever again (but had a ridiculous good time with RE:4 on the 'Cube).

Obviously Gamespot is up there, but VG news is scattered all over the place and VG site and information quality varies greatly.

Thanks!

Castle Crashers. Not because the game was bad, it's not by any means, but because it was a hugely anticipated game and the online component was buggy as hell, leaving many users (including myself) absolutely out in the dark when it came to Online multiplayer.

Add to that the fact that it has taken forever to patch, and that there was no warning of the bug on XBL before purchasing (I shouldn't have to google "Castle Crashers, bug" to find out that there's a problem with a game a month after release), and I consider Castle Crashers to be one of the bigger disappointments of 2008.

By the time it's patched and I can play it online, I'll have moved onto Gears2, Fallout3, etc and will probably never go back to CC. Too bad Behemoth already has my money and I can't get a refund.
