Friday was the System of a Down concert. I wouldn't say that I was as nervous as I was the first time I went to see them in Austin, but I kept thinking something was going to happen. I always think that. Yeah.
I stopped on the way at this little gas station, I forgot where. I had to use the bathroom, then I bought a Dr Pepper. The guy behind the counter asked if I was going to the show tonight. I had on my SoaD shirt, so that must have been a giveaway. I said yeah. We got to talking about concerts. He said he'd last seen them when they opened for another band. That musta been a long time ago. I asked if he was going to go, but he said he had to work all night. Bummer.
I had the radio to KISS, and the DJ was talking to Serj outside the SBC Center, which was cool. I only heard them interview him twice. I got to SA around 4 something, when over the radio, I heard they opened parking. Great, lucky for me. I got a pretty good parkin spot, if I say so myself. It wasn't that far from the enterance, and it was in section G (just a coincidence, I'm sure.)
There weren't that many people waiting for the doors to open, I'd say about 200 people. Of course, when they opened the doors, everyone had to get padded down. They scanned the ticket instead of tearing it. The SBC Center was pretty nice. I'd never been in it before. I found my seat pretty easy.
Bad Acid Trip played first at 7. They only played for 30 minutes. That was good, because it seemed like no one liked them. I dunno.
The Mars Volta played next. Wow, were they a treat. Their music was so unusual and I couldn't believe I had never heard their music before. I'm glad I got to hear them, because I would have never known that I liked them.
System of a Down was last. They sounded a lot better than they did in Austin those months ago. Everyone was jamming out with them, like usual. Every song was a hit, everyone sang, everyone danced, everyone threw their arms in the air. It was just awesome.
I ended up buying a cap, a poster and a sticker. I'm glad I didn't get a beer, because they were $6. Ripoff. Afterwards, I sat in my truck, recovering my hearing a little. I knew my voice was gone. I was waiting also because the cars to my right were in line. That was great. And the line wasn't moving, either. Great again. I decided to go left and try my luck getting out that way. And lucky me, I got out. Some people asked me if I was going downtown to party, but I said no. I shoulda gone. Those people got in the truck in front of me though. Oh well. I got the hell out of there as fast as I could. I headed home, pretty much alone on the highway.
I'd been waiting since June for that concert. I'm so glad I got the chance to go. I'm a Mars Volta fan now, and I can't wait to see SoaD again when Hypnotize comes out.
