I was reading some reviews a few people where righting for some of the RPG's I play. After reading them, I decided that I needed to say something about what they wrote. Do understand that this is my personal opinion about what these individuals said as to what their opinions where too. Fell free to comment if you wish.
First, one that I was reading mentioned the story of RPG's. How the ones these days are not that original. Well, that's because none of them where original to begin with. Let's face it, an RPG has the same key qualities:
"You are a "hero" here to save the world as your character knows it from something."
And that fits EVERY Role Playing Game out there. Doesn't mater what game it is or what consul, it fits within that one line. The real part of an RPG is not what the overall story is, but how you journey through that story. After all, that is what Role Playing is. You assume the role of the character you are playing. So the final out come, while you'll be able to see it from a mile away from your point of view (not your characters), is obvious, getting there is what is fun.
The other part that I wanted to comment on was skill and abilities. Yes, those tend to get tedious after a while but they are practically the same from game to game. They have very few differences. How you use them together is how you customize and personalize games to your own way of playing. Besides, as my dad usually says, it's a made up world, if a spoon is said to destroy a troll, then the spoon can destroy the troll.
