Look at you all, referring to 'beats' as though they were anything more than the dilettante's ostinato. I have nothing but contempt for you all. Do you hear people applauding Beethoven's exemplary beats in his C-sharp minor quartet? No? That is because in that quartet he was writing at a level that none of you can even begin to understand. Beethoven had much greater things on his mind than stringing together rhythms and repeating them again and again - music of almost subhuman complexity. You disgust me, so much so that despite having been dead for nearly a century I am moved to register the fury that I feel. You are little more than barbarians; the Hun, gaping at the gates of Rome. Over the centuries, music has, thanks to such geniuses as Bach, Beethoven and I, become an art-form of the highest virtue. And now here you are, undoing all of that progress. If you want to laud any of this as anything more than worthless, this is your prerogative. But let me assure you - the great composers did not construct towering masterpieces of structural and developmental genius just so you could opt instead to listen to thugs talking over repetitive patterns. I hate you all.
