Update?

You're probably wondering why the '?', right?

No?

Huh... Well, it's because this isn't much of an update... I still haven't written the reviews or other blog things.

I also haven't played Dynasty Warriors 7 yet. I'm hoping it'll be worth the wait.

Soul Calibur V is looking promising, though with them skipping 17 years in the story all I have to say is DON'T TAKE OUT MY CHARACTERS! PLEASE! XD

What was the other game I posted about? ...Oh, yeah, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I haven't been really following it. I figure Bethesda's pretty much got it covered. Not much they could do to mess up the ES, as long as they don't completely change everything.

So... Yeah, I should probably be doing schoolwork at the moment, haha. Peace out.

Oh and, wish me luck on my finals Friday.

Level 22! w00t!

I'm officially a Blaster Master!

So, yeah, I have been less active of late and haven't even gotten around to writing the reviews I promised

I'll get around to them... But not today :P

Well, that's pretty much all I have to say. Have a good day/afternoon/nights/whenever you read this

Games I'm looking forward to most in 2011.

There are a lot of big-name and not-so-big-name releases coming out in 2011... Like every other year. But this year has some games I'm particularly excited for, and I wanted to post another blog so I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone.

Please note that these aren't in any particular order.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Bethesda's legendary roleplaying franchise continues this year and will take place in the Nordic homeland of Skyrim. The story revolves around the return of dragons to Tamriel, so there will be some awesome fights. Got my fingers crossed for a dragon mount. From what I've read, it looks quite promising.

Soul Calibur 5: True, it's probably not going to come out this year as they just announced it. But if it did, how cool would that be? :P I'm hoping for awesome new characters to be introduced. Three characters I'd like to see are a British knight (hopefully would be the first character that fought with a normal longsword), a tribal African warrior (with spear&shield), and a Celtic warrior (could have an axe of something, but with a much different moveset then Astaroth or Lizardman, obviously). And the story needs to longer/better (like in three).

Dynasty Warriors 7: I didn't have my hopes up for the seventh release of Koei's famous button-mashing beat-em-ups, but recently I was brought up to date on Koei's plans for the game and it's looking good. They've expanded the character roster to include some of my favorites from Romance of the Three Kingdoms that never made it into Dynasty Warriors before (like Deng Ai, Zhuge Dan, and Ma Dai). They also removed the renbu system and returned to the combo system, which at least adds a little more variety.

So, I'm pretty sure there were more but I'm too tired to think of them right now. I'll post them later, if I remember to.

Have a good day, everybody!

The Last Remnant: First Impressions

The Last Remnant is a game I've been wanting to try for about a year, and I just recently got my hands on a copy. Though I've only done a few quests, I'm liking it so far. The characters are interesting, which is obviously a huge plus for a game. The main character, Rush, is actually funny and not obnoxious like most JRP protagonists. I really like the combat system. It's hard and it sometimes takes a little too long, but it's really unique and interesting at the same time.

Adressing the most common complaint I've seen against the game (long load times and bad frame rates), those issues can be remedied by installing the game to the hard drive. It's about 4 or 5gb, but it is definatley worth doing because it makes it run so much better and really, the graphics in this game are great once it's installed.

So, yeah, after I'm done with the game, I'll post a review. As it stands, I think it will be a fairly glowing review.

Christmas 2010

Merry Christmas, everybody!

This year I got a 360 Slim and Kinect, and am thoroughly enjoying them.

Reviews for Forza 3, Madden 11, Super Street Fighter 4, and more to come. :)

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The latest Elder Scrolls game has been anounced. It will take place in the Nord homeland of Skyrim and appears to be about the return of dragons to Tamriel, and it's hinted that your character will be a legendary dragon hunter (or tamer?).

I'm actually a little bit dissapointed with that, but I've got faith in Bethesda. It'll be good.

It's slated to release 11/11/11.

Level 20!

So yeah, I'm pretty proud of the twenty mark on my gamespot level. I've been around close to four years now... How do people gain this so fast? Regardless: huzzah! I'm now Metal Slime.

Just Because

Hello, world! It's two-o-clock in the morning and I'm all hyped up on coffee. Just thought I'd share that with you. So, yeah, there's no real purpose to this blog. I hope you're all having a good day.

Random question: How do you add a picture to a blog post?

Top 10 Fighting Game Characters

Continuing my new series of blog posts, I decided to move onto my 10 favorite fighting game characters instead RPG games like I had planned. I'll do other genres some other time.

These are my opinions, by the way, so you are likely to disagree.

10. Paul Phoenix

The hard-hitting heavyweight favorite of the Tekken series. So he's not very graceful or sphisticated, you've got to admit that nailing an opponent with Phoenix Smasher is pretty freaking cool.

9. Ken (Street Fighter Series)

Originally nothing more than a palette swap for Ryu, Ken has long since become his own character and even though his moveset is similar, it has it's own edge. Ken's aggressive and fast, making him one of the more fun characters to play as and one of the harder ones to fight.

8. Nightcrawler (X-Men Mutant Academy 2)

Nightcrawler, the coolest X-Men (not debatable :p), makes his lone fighting game appearance in X-Men Mutant Academy 2 and that alone was enough to earn him a spot up here. With teleporting abilities that put Dhalsim to shame, and a sword to boot, Nightcrawler deserves to be in another game... Marvel vs Capcom 3 perhaps?

Quote: "Shall I teleport you somewhere you can recover?"

7. Xianghua (Soul Calibur Series)

"Take that! Here's another! Just kidding!" A three hit combo I often spammed on SC 2 before I actually learned how to play as her. Xianghua is one of the best characters in the series, and her intricate fighting style seems to get better and cooler with each installment in the series. After failing with everyone else again and again, Xianghua was finally the first one I managed to beat Night Terror with. Not even the embodiment of evil itself can stand against the wrath of this small Chinese woman.

6. Talim (Soul Calibur Series)

Talim is a sweet, innocent young girl who till tear you apart with a pair of bladed tonfas. I know a lot of people don't like Talim, but face it, it's hilarious to see Talim knock some of the larger fighters, like Astaroth, around. If only her flipping moves didn't so frequently end in her ringing herself out!

Quote: "Oh! That was scary!"

5. Dan Hibiki (Street Fighter Series)

Dan is freaking hilarious. Over-the-top lines, moves, and taunts make Dan one of my favorites, despite an underwhelming skillset. Though, really, he's not that bad. You just can't try to play as him like he's Ryu or Ken.

Quote: "Sore loser! Don't go around beating up inanimate objects."

4. Ryu (Street Fighter Series)

The original fireball throwing, spin kicking karate guy. Ryu is the most powerful hobo on the planet, traveling the world with nothing but the clothes on his back, challenging fighters around the world on his quest to become a "true martial artist", whatever that means. The point being, Ryu is the most iconic fighting game character in history and his spot on this list is well-earned.

Quote: "You must defeat my dragon punch to stand a chance!"

3. Siegfried Schtauffen (Soul Calibur Series)

Without a doubt, the most bad a** good guy in the genre. Siegfried was formerly possessed by the cursed sword Soul Edge but managed to break free and seeks to atone for his sins. Wielding with ease a great sword that's about the same size as him, and speaking in a deep, epic voice (Soul Calibur 3), Siegfried is a guy you definitely don't want against you.

Quote: "No longer will I have doubts or fears."

2. Raphael Soreal (Soul Calibur Series)

Back when I was playing Soul Calibur 2 over at a friend's house for the first time, Raphael was the only character I could win with, so naturally, I kept playing as him. I'm not sure I like the whole vampire thing (and I definitely don't like how crappy his dodges are in SC 4!) but Raphael has still remained one of my favorites in the series.

Quote: "The likes of you could never stop me!"

1. Yoshimitsu (Soul Calibur&Tekken Series)

Sweet costumes and outrageous movesets are the name of the game for this cyborg, Robin Hood-esque samurai/ninja/thief/whatever he is. I didn't think it would be fair if Yoshimitsu took up two spots on this list, so I went ahead and combined the Tekken and Soul Calibur Yoshimitsus as they are quite similar, though I do prefer his Soul Calibur appearance due to his awesome voice/lines in said series.

Top 10 Fighting Games

So, I was bored, and I decided to start a new series of blog posts that will be my opinion of the Top 10 of different genres of video games. It is very likely that my opinion contrasts sharply with your's, as there are very few who share my opinions. Feel free to post your own opinion if your feel so inclined.

10. King of Fighters '99

Some of you are probably scratching your heads already, but yes, KoF '99 makes the list. It's the best (and only) King of Fighters game I've played and I thought it deserved a spot up here. There might be (and probably are) better KoF games but this is the only one I've ever played (aside from SNK vs Capcom games, if you would count those), so pardon my ignorance to the series.

9. X-Men Mutant Academy 2

I think it might have been the first 3D fighter I played, it was at least the first one I really liked. Lots of my favorite X-Men made the cut. The gameplay was fun, the animations were smooth, and, as an X-Men geek, this game was just downright cool.

8. X-Men vs Street Fighter

Yeah, I went there. Though universally panned by most (and perhaps it's partially because of this that I gave it a spot up here) X-Men vs Street Fighter stood above Marvel vs Capcom to me in that it was more narrowed down. I like Marvel vs Capcom, except that I don't like many of Capcoms characters beyond the Street Fighter roster, they just feel out of place to me.

7. Soul Calibur 2

After years away, this is the game that brought me back to being a regular of the fighting game genre. It's unique brand of gameplay and interesting cast of characters refreshed a genre that had become rather dull to me.

6. Street Fighter 2

Ah, the game that started me not only on the genre, but on video games as a whole. Although the series continually improved upon this classic, it will never be forgotten. "You must defeat my dragon punch to stand a chance!"

5. Tekken Tag Tournament

The main things that put this game on the list were the huge selection of characters and the unique selection of modes. Tekken Tag offered a Pair Play mode that let you tag team with a friend, along with other interesting things such as Tekken Bowling.

4. Super Smash Bros. Melee

True, not a traditional fighting game, but a fighting game nonetheless. In my opinion, the gem of the series, and one of the most fun games out there. I'm a sucker for a good crossover game.

3. Tekken 4

A huge step forward for the Tekken series this more open, story driven title was an underappreciated bright spot in the series that Tekken hasn't quite been able to get back to again in later titles.

2. Street Fighter Alpha 3

Street Fighter at it's finest, SF Alpha 3 offered a huge variety of characters, satisfying gameplay, and a flashy presentation. I still play this game semi-regularly, it's one Capcom has yet to top.

1. Soul Calibur 3

I know what you're thinking: "What? Soul Calibur 3? That wasn't even the best in the Soul series!" Simply put, yes it was. Refining SC II's movesets, smoothing out the animations, overhauling the storyline, touching up the graphics, and expanding the character roster, SC 3 offered complex and dynamic fighting game experience with a surprisingly engaging story and cast. SC 3 was the prime of the Soul series and, in my opinion, the prime of the fighting game genre.
