Super Mario Galaxy.
I didn't know what I was in for as I walked timidly up to the counter at Future shop, weilding the game in my hand. I thought about turning around. But kept moving forward. I placed it on the counter, sweat dripped on my brow, "LAST CHANCE" I thought to myself, my heart was pounding harder and hard-
"Oh, Super Mario Galaxy, great choice!" said the short man behind the counter, "Just your luck, our sale started today!"
"SOLD!" I stated as I handed the man my money.
When I got home, my jeans were frozen, my socks were drenched. The snow had fallen the night before. That was the third day in a row. School was cancelled, driveways remained unshovelled. It was as if the whole world had stopped for me, it said "Time has stopped so you could play this game."
I stared into the bag, Mario's face shone up at me. I ran upstairs, turned on my Wii, and heard the harmonious bells and chimes of the starting menu. I placed the disk into the slot, I slowly moved the cursor over to "Disc Channel" I pressed "A". The discs were spinning at a rapid rate, as was my heart, then the Wii disk fell into an invisible slot.
"SUPER MARIO GALAXY!" filled up the screen.
I pushed "Start" and I was on the journey of a lifetime!
When I first heard of Super Mario Galaxy, I was timid at the idea of it. I hadn't liked Super Mario 64, so why on earth would I like this one? Well, that's when I realised it. This game wasn't ON EARTH! It is in another Galaxy! As the game commences, you are immediately submerged into the fantasy world of Mario. At a first glance, you see that these graphics destroy that of any other Mario game. The sounds, sights, and feel of the world around you immerses you, so you feel as is you are actually there! There are virtually no flaws, this game is 100% error free! As well as being error free, the game takes full advantage of the Wii Remote. You use it in many different ways, from striking an opponent, to surfing a sting-ray!
This game, is not for everybody, but, it is good enough for me. I was so very nervous about the purchase of this game. "Would I like it?" I thought. Then, realised there was only one way to find out. For a fun, colourful experience. Super Mario Galaxy is the way to go.
Rock Band.
I had no idea that finding Rock Band would be such a hassle. I called 14 different stores, all of which "we sold out today" being the response. "How many people buy Rock Band in a day" I thought. When all hope was lost, I closed the phone book, and threw it on the floor. My local video game store's name gleamed up at me. "OF COURSE" I thought. I dialed them up, "RING!" my heart skipped a beat, "RIINNNGGG!" again, skipping a beat. When, finally, when all hope was lost..."Hello?" came a small voice on the onther end. I was so excited I could hardly talk. This was my last chance of getting Rock Band! They HAD to have it! "let me check." came the man's response after I asked for Rock Band. After a few minutes of footsteps, doors opening and closing, other phones ringing, and people in the store bustling around, I heard the fatal words, "Yup. Do you want me to put your name down for one?"
When I arrived at the store, I saw the massive box looking down upon me from the raised counter-top. I saw my name in red ink taped to a piece of paper on the box. The man rang it up for me. I was so happy.
When I got home, I pulled ALL the parts out of the box and built all the drums, and guitars, when finally. It was done. My parents never heard from me for a few days, all they heard, was the constant tapping of the drums, the strumming of a guitar, or my voice struggling to match Kurt Cobain's.
Rock Band is a MUST-HAVE for any gamer. It is the ULTIMATE party game. Having friends over after school to jam out is incredible. The game has over 50 songs. Most, are not covers (like in guitar hero) but actual recordings of the band. The same principles of Guitar Hero, Rock Band has 4 levels of difficulty "Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert". Also the songs get more and more challenging. However, unlike Guitar Hero, you are not confronted with a song such as "Through the Fire and Flames" and "Psychobilly Freakout". Which, by my understanding is a huge sigh of relief to those of you who actually want to BEAT the game. The game is fun for everyone, young and old. If Mick Jagger is still singing, then why can't anyone else. Definately pick this game up. If you can find it, that is.
