Fallout 3

It's now my 3rd true day with Fallout 3, and I have to tell you all, I'm far from disappointed, as was my fear.

I absolutely love the game's setting, the post-apocalyptic Washington DC is phenomenally good, and filled with plenty of exploration and mini-adventures. In fact, it's more than fair to say that almost every fight you get into in Fallout, is an adventure in itself. You're always unsure how long your weapons will last, as they can break on you at any given moment, and while it mightn't happen all too often, the thought is always haunting the back of your mind. Also, one will take note of how fast ammo is depleted against tougher enemies, luckily, as is my usual tactic, I've taken on a stealth based character, and am usually able to take out enemies from a couple of headshots while undetected using the fantastic V.A.T.S mode.

There is also a great atmosphere in the game, particularly when you are faced with the problem of low ammo/health, and are knee deep in a quest for somebody, so that you may find an answer to your main goal. In fact, one point within a planetarium genuinely made me jump.

I won't go an further into the game here as I intend to review it at a later date, but I will say that you'd be doing yourself a great dis-service to ignore this title, it definately holds some form of contendership for GOTY.

Fallout ThreEVE

Ok,

So tomorrow I finally get to play Fallout 3 (hence my hilarious title), I haven't been this excited to play a game in a long time, I've heard nothing negative about the game so far, minus a couple of graphical complaints, though for a game as big as this, it hardly seems surprising that there are a few errors.

I'm playing the title on 360, which is in Birmingham and I'm currently back in Manchester, thus a distance of 95(ish) miles keeps me from playing the game I've been waiting just over a year for.

I am however somewhat concerned that I'm setting myself up for a fall. I was very excited around the time of bethesda's last release The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and while it was a very good game, it just didn't match their previous Elder Scrolls title, Morrowind. Regardless, I played it through and clocked a lot of hours into, and managed to leave with some fond memories of the game, but also a dim feeling of disappointment stayed with me.

I fear that I will be comparing Fallout to Morrowind from the very off, which may leave me with the faint feeling that perhaps Bethesda have just suffered unfortunate mass-hype, which I have, once again [rather foolishly] fallen for.

Ideally however, I would very much like this game to capture my imagination, and drive me to playing Fallout 1 & 2, and discover more about this post-apocalyptic universe, that has gotten our little planet, oh-so-excited.

I will follow this blog with my early impressions and feelings of the game in a few days, so until then take care.
