*sigh of relief* ahhhhh, music, a topic i can relate to
Genres that are overated (and i dislike) are;
Alternative "Metal": Its just not what is used to be, alternative metal was supposed to be an "alternative" to music that was getting overplayed, and back and in the 90's we had some truley alternative METAL bands like Faith No More, Primus, Alice In Chains, Flattbush, Helmet, (early) White Zombie, THE MELVINS and more. And now all you hear on the radio are lame alternative "metal" bands sound the same as the last, AND DONT EVEN SOUND REMOTELY METAL; stuff like Lynkin Park, Three Days Grace, Flyleaf, Evanescnce, Stone Sour, Coal Chamber and alot more bands that try to convey some "hard-edge", "dark" pseudo-rebellion attitude.
Scene-core & Scene-grind (Metalcore, Deathcore, fashioncore): Bands like Bring Me The Horizons, Job for a Cowboy, As I Lay Dying, Poison the Well, The Devil Wears Prada, Suicide Silence and countless other. To me all it is is a bunch of emo scene kids thinking the could play real metal or grindcore.
and "Emo": Another one of my favorite typse of music gone down the drain over the years. What happened to originality in emo music? Band like Fugazi, Rites of Spring, At the Drive-In, Moss Icon, Cap'n Jazz were all part of the early emo scene, a scene that was all about the music, NOT the fashion. Now we got whimps in girl pants whining into the microphones to pop-punk tunes like Hawthorne Heights, Fall Out Boy, Cute Is What We Aim For, The Acedemy Is....The type of music where if you have a cute haircut you'll make it far.
