As I mentioned in my last post my Xbox 360 has recently received the RRoD and despite working for a day after using the "Towel Trick" it is quite clearly busted and unusable, which is a shame to say the least.
After it was broken I was quite convinced that I have had my 360 for longer than 3 years so the idea of sending it off to get repaired at a price seemed a little stupid to me, however I could not feel any stupider in my current position.
Since I thought my 360 was out of warranty I brought a few mates round and had a jolly good time opening the poor beast up with a variety of screwdrivers and drill-bits, which may I add Microsoft did not make very easy. We gave up after taking off the shell due to the fact that we lacked the right drill-bit to open the metal casing of the motherboard inside.
It was not until after this that I checked the status of my warranty on the Xbox site, only to find that I have not owned my 360 for just over 3 years but rather just over TWO years. I instantly sent off for a return request to get the RRoD problem fixed for FREE...AS LONG AS the console has "No evidence of tampering or anything else that voids the warranty". Somehow I was pretty sure that peeling off the warranty sticker and opening up the case DID slightly void the warranty.
Yet I had a cunning plan as always! I crudely stuck the warranty sticker back in its place and filed down the blatantly obvious marks at the back of the case where we attacked it with a screwdriver. I now have my 360 all packaged up ready to be collected by Mr. UPS man some time soon.
Let's just hope that Microsoft doesn't return my Xbox unrepaired due to "tampering" and if they do I guess I will just purchase a new 360, possibly the Elite, and wait a little longer until I get my PS3.
Thanks for reading :)
Check back next week for my next post.
