My Prediction on the Nintendo revolution secret
by Heydanud on Comments
This is my first Blog Post as well as my first prediction as to what the Nintendo Secret Will be. These are quotes I put together and how I interpreted them that lead me to my opinion. I’ll start with the obvious, like the quote below and move on from there. "there are still some secrets out there about what the system can do" (duh) "Clearly there are things we haven't said yet about Revolution, mainly talking about the games and what you're going to be able to play and what the experience is really like." (so they haven’t revealed something that will change the gaming experience, other than the controller) IGN: Hardware related secrets? Beth: You know, maybe. (so its hardware related) "Our competitors have detailed the power of their core processor and display. But the advantages of our technology will also have no bearing on game play. " (meaning that they will have something to do with the display or the core processor) "In the past, the video game industry grew on high-quality graphics and data volume. We decided to move into a different direction. " (it won’t be as powerful, therefore the secret won’t be the core processor) "When you turn on Revolution and see the graphics, you will say 'wow! " (it won’t be as powerful but will still make you say wow, how is this possible?) "from what I've heard from people it sounds like they are going to be using cutting-edge technology, as are we" (if the technology isn’t related to the processing power than what could it be?) "The game itself and the game play shall be identical, but the look will be different; it's possible that with Revolution, we may be able to see the old games with new looks" (since there is no hdtv, and you can’t really enhance an old NES game’s graphics, it has to be displayed differently, anyway he states that the game itself will be identical so that rules out the look being different, for that reason at least) "How these four elements - controller, console, tv and internet – interact with each other forms the central difference in Revolution design" (meaning every element listed will change, if not, then why would they be listed?) We know that these things have already changed: controller=the freehand controller (will in many ways change how we play games) console=the revolution itself (less powerful, less processing power, small, quiet, portable, affordable, has the virtual console)as opposed to (power-hungry, more processing power, large, loud, heavy and expensive) tv-???? internet-nintendo wifi (will have exclusive features, like downloading old nes snes, genesis, turbgrophics-16, and n64 games. Possibly other features not even mentioned yet) we know the tv element will be something different just like the other three elements have, otherwise it wouldn’t be listed at all. "Our focus is always next on what we can do to surprise the consumer. HDTV is not the best weapon. " (if high definition isn’t the best weapon, surely standard definition alone isn’t either, so it has be something completely new in how the game is displayed in sd) So we know for sure the secret has something to do with how the games are displayed. And we know it will be something different. Another secret could possibly have something to do with the online service, but it won’t be the main secret. Below are some quotes that suggest what the secret could be, pertaining to the type of display. "We invented the current way a console is played - in front of a television and holding a controller - but maybe that image will change" "Sitting in front of your monitor with a controller, there's really nowhere to go from that paradigm, all you can do is make it prettier and faster" "I think maybe if I could do anything, I would make it so you don't have to sit in front of a TV and play." (nintendo seems really very keen to change that image, and they want to change the image into the image in the quotes below) " If you could have a machine that you just plugged in and played inside a virtual world that - would be just great" "I always wanted to have a custom-sized screen that wasn't the typical four-cornered cathode-ray-tube TV. I've always thought that games would eventually break free of the confines of a TV screen to fill an entire room. " So what we get out of this is that nintendo wants to change the image of you sitting in front of a monitor holding a controller in two hands, into you being immersed in a game that would fill an entire room with a controller fit for controlling your character in this kind of environment. And we know they are going to change how the game is displayed. They have already done one part (revealing the freehand controller) who's to say they won't go all out on thier vision of how things should change. I think nintendo is going to do what they want to do, and I think the new type of display will have something to do with either Stereoscopic 3d, or holographic projection.
