FYC-Mad Men

When the emmy nominations came out I was ecstatic to find out that Mad Men, one of my favorite shows and one of the best dramas of the decade, was not only recognized but recieved a whopping 16 nominations. Even the emmy voters unexplainable love for the abysmal Boston Legal can't rain on my parade. I just hope that James Spader doesn't hog more oscars, after robbing both Hugh Laurie and James Gandolfini I hope the voters finally agree to start seeing other people. Anyway Mad Men not only became 1/3 of all the non-network and non-hbo shows to ever get a nom for best series, but John Hamm, Michael Slattery and Robert Morse all earned well deserved nominations. I would love to see Hamm win but I would prefer a 3 way tie between him,Hugh Laurie and Michael C. Hall (wishful thinking?). If I can say one thing negatively about the Emmy voter's Mad Men love it is that they failed to acknowledge two stunning performances, Elizabeth Moss's naive new girl Peggy, and Christina Hendricks sneaky, slutty Joan. Also the voters have created a huge problem for me by nominating 4 of my favorite shows for best drama, I'd be fine with any of the nominees winning (save for Boston Legal) but I'd also hate to see the others lose. Well back to Mad MEn, since theres nothing I can say about this masterpiece that hasn't already been said I'll just say some things that have been said. Mad Men beautifully and realistically shows us the shocking truths about America's not so distant pass. It takes us back to a time where pregnant women smoked, drinking on the job was practically required, and nothing was sexual harrasment. But the magic of the show is how it makes that seem ok or even almost elegant, and how it makes us not only believe but also love every minute we spend in the scoth soaked, chain smoking, secratary screwing world of 1960's Madison Avenue. Feel free to share your thoughts on Mad Men and how you think it will fare in this year's Emmys
