In light of Versus XIII being officially cancelled, Square Enix has officially announced they will be unveiling a title on September 1st, "Final Fantasy XIII Lightning's Saga"

If you are a fan of FF who couldn't stand the XIII series thus far, it looks as though you will be stuck with it for a little longer.

The possibility of XIII being a 3 game series could be around the corner.

The XIII series will most likely live on until the end of this generation's cycle.

IGN had reported that Versus is officially cancelled on Friday. They also announced in related news, that a FFXIII realted title will be announced on September 1st, Called FFXIII "Lightning's Saga", and will most likely be a FF XIII-3 game.

Unfortunately, if you were not a fan of FFXIII, your doing a lot of waiting for the next rendition of the game...

At this point, and at this price, its not a bad idea to grab XIII and XIII-2 IMO, the games weren't the best, but they are worth a play, especially if you are a die hard FF fan....it doesn't seem like the XIII series is going away this generation.

It honestly doesn't matter. As you know, they don't tie into each other. (unless you play a continuation title indicated by the "-2" after the roman numeral) Without starting a debate on the best FF title, generally they are all worth playing if you love JRPGs. Every single one of them. My favorites have been VI, VII, IX, X and XIII. Tactics is a fun one as well but not really a JRPG. Playing 7, 8, and 9 graphically speaking be tough to swallow. The 16-bit era FF games almost look better than the early 3D rendered PS titles. There seems to be a huge following for VII that simply won't die. It is a really excellent one. The english version is poorly translated, but the story is solid. Although FF fans seem to be a bit touchy with the latest rendition to the series (XIII), I found it to be quite good, although linear. It's sequel works to correct the linear shortcomings of XIII, but is a stretch with the continuation of the story. Not necessary, but a decent title.

Its 2012 and late in the console's life cycle.... Just like you shouldn't buy year one of a car model, you shouldn't buy the older (now well used) PS3s. Kinks have been worked out of them. Backwards compatible? Your really going to play PS2 games? Also as mentioned, the new Slims allow your surround receiver to do in-house decoding of the loss-less codecs.

I never got into them... I played the first one when it come out, and the graphics, but mainly the physics were a joke. Your character seemed like he was ice skating, your default gun looked like it was shooting flaming tennis balls, you could fire into a fellow soldiers back and an infinite amount of poor quality blood would gush out. Bad guys fell over in the wrong direction when you shot them, the water looked like DX6. I figured it was a hyped release title and sony needed something big, considering big titles were already out on 360. I tried to revisit with Resistance 2, I mean, it was $6.99 used at a popular game store I shop at (not sure what the rules are for mentioning stores here). What would I have to lose? It was equally unimpressive IMO. Not to mention the story is terrible, almost nonexistent in the first game. Now I understand people LOVE this game. I am not a hater. I don't go around saying this series is terrible, but the above is how I felt when playing it. What am I missing??? I have both a 360 and PS3, and I remember when the first Resistance came about scratching my head, as I had been playing Gears of War (the original) and graphically, and mechanically GoW seemed to blow it away. (although there isnt much story there either). Could have my timeline off but I think Kill Zone II was out, or at least the demo, and that seemed to blow it away also. I WANTED to love it. Its just bad.

If they remade the game, most of the FF fans would whine about it anyway. A true remake would most likely remove the world map, and create an environment that most of you would consider too linear lol. Sometimes its easy to forget, that even though FF7 was a great game, you were running around on top of fixed images... More often then not, when running on these fixed images, you could only go down a set path... The new formula is in the form of FFX and FFXIII. Both games looked great, had decent battle systems, well detailed character models, stories that were on par with other FF games, but a set path and no world map. I have a feeling that a remake would do more harm then good. By today's graphical standards, fans could realize that final fantasy 7 was much more linear then they imagined. Unfortunately FF7 is hard to swallow visually...some may argue that it is easier on the eyes to play SNES FF games, rather then the early stage low res 3D polygon renderings of the PS1 days...

So I ran across Square's Star Ocean The Last Hope while surfing the web. I love a good JRPG... Is this title worth $14 shipped, brand new? I watched a few videos about it and it actually seems pretty solid. Anyone play through this one? Is it worth the time? Thanks!

That turn based JRPG style you are looking for seems to be a dying breed. This generation especially.

[QUOTE="Gh05tsh4d0w2k"] Sending my console into Microsoft is not an option either. The warranty is still usable, but even then, I don't want to wait a month or longer to play. I need something to do aside from sleeping or idling about the internet when I come home from being on my feet for 8 straight hours at Walmart.

If you find you cannot fix the issue, you should really send it in to microsoft. The system is most likely done for. You do not have to wait for them to send your system back, you can opt for them to send you a replacement FIRST, and then mail in your old one. Once they receive the old one, then the one they sent you is officially yours. You would keep your original hard drive, and controllers, etc. The core system would be swapped. The company doesn't repair your system anyway, they usually swap it with another model that is ready to go. No down time. (Even though you can't play games now so I don't understand your original logic.) I suggest you give Microsoft a call...thats what your warranty is for.
