Sony and Nintendo press Conferences (In a nut shell !!!)
by IXON on Comments
Now for my Nintendo and Sony press conference impressions, well for the interest of time I'm going to combine the two as my sisters notes aren't the best.
So first up is Nintendo, the press conference was introduced by Cammie Dunnaway who goes on to say that the market has changed and is now bigger than all the other entertainment mediums. E.g. - movies and music.
Now here comes their new motive, "Create Surprise" which was ideal for the game they moved to first, showing the history of Mario and the showing a playable demo of Super Mario Brothers for the Wii, the new featuresfor this game and for the series are more players, 4 to be precise, CO-OP play which you can team up, or go against your friends for the new ranking system, but also the ability to switch to single player on the fly if you friends have had enough.
New items include the new propeller suit, which is used by flicking the Wii remote, the game will offer more hidden areas and is slated for Holiday 09 release.
Wii fit plus was next showing the new workouts that are available, with the option of mix and matching the best routines to help you, and also the option to choose which areas of the body you want to workout, with 15 more games for the balance board it will arrive this fall.
Wii motion plus then made an appearance, which looks like it might give the player the impression of more fluid movements etc, with such games as basketball and golf.
But with help of Wii Sports Resort, it shows that the new remote will now detect the angle and the position of you Wii remote, which means that a lot of the games will now require the actual skill of the player, so practice makes perfect.
The game is slated for the American audience on July 26, and is said to be a new form of physical gaming.
Next more games, which are built around Wii motion Plus:
- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 - (Game and accessory will be sold together),
- EA Grand Slam Tennis,
- Virtua Tennis.
All three of these games will be available in a couple of weeks, next on the list is,
- Red Steel 2, - which is only playable with Wii Motion plus.
They then went on to explain how the Wii was the number 1 games console with sales of games in America, and that the DS lite was 2nd.
Then shown was Final Fantasy - The Crystal Bearers on the Wii aswell as Kingdom Hearts on the DS, graphically this game looks absolutely amazing.
Next came a load of games for the DS,
- Mario & Luigi : Bowsers Inside Story - Available in America and Europe in Fall,
- Golden Sun - This game makes its return to DS in 2010,
- Women's Murder Club: Games of Passion - based upon a book, basically uncover hidden clues, interrogate etc (Very much like CSI).
- C.O.P. The Recruit - Is a third person action game, including driving sections with cars, speedboats etc.
It then moved to the Nintendo DSi, which has been available in America for the last 2 months, and has sold over 1 million units. (I love E3 because bragging rights are used.).
Mario VS Donkey Kong is making its return on the DSi, with the new added ability to make your own levels.
Also the camera on the DSi will be able to be uploaded especially to Facebook, and then one of the most awaited games for the DS was shown which is The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.
As usual they couldn't help themselves by stating that 295 million people are playing on consoles around the world, and that their next goal was to make something for everyone. Then something weird was shown, the Wii Vitality Sensor. This shows your pulse, and basically is used as another way to relax yourself. (Hmmm)
Then the game all Nintendo fans wanted to see was shown, which is Super Mario Galaxy 2 which looked really nice, with all new way to play, with new levels and is defiantly one for the family.
The new games for the Wii were then shown:
- The Conduit - This will be released in June, it looks like an action packed shooter
- Resident Evil: The Darkside chronicles - The sequel to Umbrella Chronicles looks interesting and the graphics are good, should be interesting how the story sits in the series and who can get bored of Zombies.
- DeadSpace: Extraction - is a rail shooter which is basically as gory as the original on 360 with a lot of scares, and the graphics are really good also keeping with the theme.
Now with every conference they leave something till last and this was the same when they showed the trailer for Metroid: Other M, this game looked amazing from the minute the trailer started and looks like a few changes have been made in the series.
Not to bad a conference could have had a few more big reveals but ill leave the judgment till after Sony's.(We will see).
Now finally is the Sony Press Conference, straight of the bat the showed the new line up with a trailer showing games such as Beatles: Rock Band and Final Fantasy etc.
Then moving on to explain that the PS2 is still selling, and is still the family console, with over 100 new titles coming this year. (Hmmm what happened to next generation!!!).
Next the games, first up was
- Infamous - which looks really nice, and according to Sony is the biggest game this year on PS3, this game is of course is an open world 3rd person action game with some really cool combat mechanics.
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves- is the long anticipated sequel which looks fantastic,(to the point if I had the cash I would buy a PS3), it looks very pretty and the animation looks very fluid, with a very interesting story and of coarse has its comical one liners.
- M.A.G. - was next, my god this game is sick, the graphics are sweet with an easy map system to find your way around; this helps with the missions you have to do, because you will have to think logically to fulfill them. Also the way you respawn is unique, who would have thought of using a helicopter, and to top it off 256 players can play at once (What!!!!!).
They then moved onto the PSP which has been improved over the years and some new titles were announced, including:
- Final Fantasy 7
- RockBand Unplugged -Which is coming to America next week
And of course,
- Hannah Montana - Which will come as a bundle with a custom PSP which is out later this year.
The slim-line PSP was then shown, (which is the worst kept secret this year), called the PSP GO, it looks nice and is that small you can put it in your pocket, it will play all PSP games, but also can now store your games, movies and music, and also able to download stuff via its wi-fi. And that more games will be out this year.
It also comes with an application called Media GO, which is used to transfer content from your PSP to PC or vice versa, also comes with Sense Me which will organize your music library to fit your mood, which is not much different to the I - phone.
It will be available in Europe and America with price point of 249.99, (Which brings back memories of the PS3 launch with they motto Play Beyond *cough* PAY BEYOND). Also the video delivery service will be available from now on, and will feature more content and will be easier to access.
Sony then moved to HOME which was launched 6 months ago, and was confirmed that it is growing rapidly, Then 2 more games where shown:
- Agent- Which is a Playstation exclusive, it will take the player around the globe soaked in 1970's espionage, and looks fantastic.
- Assassins Creed 2 - all I can say is WOW (check out my preview).
So that was the end of the conference, out of the 3 of them Microsoft showed that they can give people some shocks that no one was expecting, hats off to Nintendo and Sony, but it was basically the same as previous years (All numbers). It's about the games which I think Microsoft showed they had, also Project Natal was the ace up their sleeve, don't get me wrong, all of them had their own unique product and I enjoyed all of them but to me Microsoft had it this year.
Phew they are done, now onto the live shows.....
Next on my Blog I will be putting up some, of my own previews on a couple of games that I am looking forward to.
Check back!!!!!!
My impressions of Microsofts E3 press conference!!!! (step by step)
by IXON on Comments
Yo its that time again its E3 and I was determined to write this year up, so here we go with the press conferences Microsoft went first this year with a lackluster press conference but boy did they top it off, but more on that later.
The show started for me at the end of the Rock Band: Beatles announcement and demo, which from what I saw looked very interesting as I'm a Beatles fan. I didn't get to see much on it other than I noticed that Paul and Ringo where on stage saying how good the game was, but as the servers where busy so I didn't get to see much....don't you just love E3.:D
Next up was Microsoft's new motto "New Experiences for every one" and then going on to say that they were not going to bore everyone with pie charts and sales figures which no doubt Sony will do.
But then this press conference shifted a gear and Microsoft were not just about their games, but the hardware to use with them (hint), at that point Tony Hawk came on stage and showed of a new peripheral for his upcoming game 'Tony Hawk Ride' which uses basically an electronic deck which captures your movement, mimicking what being on a real board feels like, this was shown with a look at his game which looked very interesting especially with the new controller, he said that the game would offer 3 difficulties which change the amount of depth in a sense you get out of the game with the controller. In other words on hard it would almost be like using a real board. The game itself looked very responsive and very fun to play as well as challenging as the controller can detect your movement so it knows when you do a grab for example all in all it was very impressive and should be very interesting to use.
Then out of the blue a trailer appeared which defiantly caught my eye it was the trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which look really pretty, but then Infinity Ward appeared on stage to actually demo the game. (At that point I nearly wet myself with shock).
The game starts you out on a icy mountain side which in true movie fashionyou climb, it looked amazing probably better in the visual department than the first one, but as in Call of Duty it turns nasty quickly with our hero donning a silenced machine gun with what looked like the alien motion tracker attached to the side, so that you can see the enemies in the blizzard you are in.
That said guns were fired and things blew up then the new vehicle section appeared where you control a snowmobile, this section was very fast paced and action packed with you shooting from it while moving it all looked very fluid and the snow blizzard looked very realistic.
From what I saw it looked very impressive with all new weaponry including the motion sensor attachment, which I would guess plays a much bigger role, but we will have to wait and see I will be waiting for this with glee, at that point they then announced that the first map packs for this game will be released on the 360 first (ooohhhh I cant wait).
They then moved on to Final fantasy 13 which to me I'm not interested in but I watched on, the game now looks like a interactive anime movie, it still has the trademark turn based fighting, and a new slot based system for power ups etc. All in all this looked interesting the graphics were very sharp, but not much was shown in the demo.
The show then moved forward to the part about exclusive titles that they show every year.
This year was no exception they first started with a new title by Epic Games called Shadow Complex which had a contra feel to it, with its side scrolling platform action. Graphically the game looked awesome and the map was of a pretty good size, the main thing that stood out for me was the foam gun which in the demo could be used to freeze enemies but also make stairs to a point to get up to higher levels, which I thought was a very interesting gameplay mechanic, it is also said to have around 13 hours of game play with lots of hidden goodies as well as a lot of replay value. And did I mention that it was an arcade title.
Next on the exclusives was and avatar based racing game called Joyride, this game looked interesting with it cell shaded graphics, it had a Mario kart feel to it and looked a lot of fun, the cars can be tricked out and to top it of the game will be free, and to go one further you can share maps regardless of whether, you have downloaded them yourself which should make this game even more fun to play.
Moving forward the trailer for Crackdown 2 appeared this of course will be the same 3rd person sandbox action game as is predecessor but the sequel looks to be a lot darker than the first, no gameplay was shown unfortunately. We then were shown the trailer for Left for Dead 2, which looked almost the same as the first, but with the added extra of a chainsaw if you like that kind of thing (I do)......and a frying pan.
Next to be shown was one of the games that I am looking forward to, which is Splinter Cell: Conviction which started of with the new trailer for the game, then the game was demoed live on stage. The game has changed a lot since everyone saw it last, the story has changed and now has a very dark feeling to it with revenge as the main motive, this being a lot darker than previous titles, it starts with Sam politely asking someone for information about his daughters killer, in the typical way Sam knows best using the environment which looked very interactive and helped the story progress, with this the graphics look very polished and detailed helping with its dark theme.
New moves are available aswell one being mark and execute which looks like a very useful tool, considering that the game is basically set out like a sandbox, so you can choose when and how to strike, also he has new gadgets such as the EMP grenade which in theory explains itself. After the demo had finish they announced a fall release for the game (Can't wait)
Forza 3 was then shown with the trailer and demo which looked very detailed but boasted some new features, including more detailed car customization with an option to download professional made paint jobs from marketplace, aswell as a HD video editor which was also demoed, these can also be uploaded it is slated for an October release.
Halo: ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) was shown next which looked awesome, and very cinematic compared to other games in the series, it looks different aswell because you have different weapons than a Spartan, with a new pistol and visor which has low level vision, which helps to find objectives.
With this the game takes a different approach with certain objects you find it throws you into the shoes of a different trooper, and his fate to build on the story and why certain events had happened and how the city was leveled, at the end of demo a trailer was shown for another halo title called 'Reach' which wasn't really talked about much other than the beta will be available with ODST in 2010.
Remedy then took to the stage with a game everyone wouldn't have thought would come to light which is Alan Wake, which looked really good (After I rubbed my eyes in disbelief)
The game takes on a very cinematic look in what looks to be a sandbox world the story as we all should know, is about a writer Alan Wake whose wife goes missing in the woods in this small town which holds a deep secret.
This being said the game is very creepy and dark which is good since it's a survival horror, the demo that was shown put Alan in the woods following someone who had pages that he needed, the lighting effect and mood made it seem very realistic almost alone in the dark ****
Alan's torch is his main weapon as it hurts his enemies in theory burning them so the shot from the gun kills them, it's an interesting mechanic as light is you weapon, also the use of flares and a flare gun is nice with a almost beautiful lighting effect and slow-mo effect, when used near a group of enemies. The game looks like its come on leaps and bounds since it dropped of the gaming radar and is slated for a Spring 2010 release (We hope!!!).
It then moved away from the games and more onto new features for the dashboard, such as Facebook which looks like the layout for the dash as it is, except it uses your Facebook account with all you friends from the website.
That being said it also has the feature to link to friends Gamertags from Facebook so you can add them for online gaming etc. You will also be able to post screen shots from your games straight to your Facebook profile.
Also coming to Xbox is Twitter all of this should be available in Fall 09.
Then came the big announcement that had been leaked prior to this event, and that was Metal Gear Solid for the Xbox 360, but wait it's not MGS4.
Not at all, it was a teaser trailer for a completely new game MGS: RISING, with the main twist that solid was not the main character, but Raiden was back for another outing as the lead. Not much was said but I wonder if PS3 is getting this title????.
Now before in this blog/write up of the Microsoft press conference, I said (hint) next to Tony Hawk's new controller, well this is why Microsoft has been busy developing what they call Project Natal.
This is what they think will be the new way to control your games and I'm excited about it, basically forget the way you play games with a controller, you are the controller this new piece on technology uses motion, facial and vocal recognition software to make you the main way to control your Xbox and the games you play on it.
It will recognize you and sign you into you profile, you can navigate the dashboard by moving you hand and by saying commands, and one person behind the scenes with this was Steven Spielberg who made a comment on stage that "Microsoft is not reinventing the wheel, but it's about no wheel at all".
The developer behind this is Kudo Tsunoda who proceeded to explain the technology through demos of the hardware itself, showing how you can completely move you avatar and navigate the dashboard also a demo where you had to hit balls against colored squares, and also a painting game which mixed all three elements together.
Also stated was that this hardware also makes certain games completely multiplayer, due to you don't need a controller in front of you, and that you can jump straight in.
Peter Molyneux came on stage after this from Lionhead studios, which were responsible for Fable 1 and 2 he went on to explain how this technology will change gaming and showed a demo of a young boy named Milo, who recognizes the person talking to him and responds against the emotion and feelings you are portraying.
Milo himself shows emotion and the demo also showed how interactive it was by touching water and interacting with objects in the world.
But then the magic happened (and my jaw dropped) when the woman in the demo draws a fish on a piece of paper to help Milo, and passes it above the TV at this point Milo took it from her, it actually scanned the image and placed it in Milo's hands.
At that point the demo ended this looks like a revolutionary new piece of technology and would change how people interact with games I cant describe the feeling I had seeing this, all I can say is you have to see it to believe it, but Peter Molyneux states that it is a landmark in entertainment.
At that point the press conference ended, with what was shown it looks like it will be interesting to see what the other 2 conferences have to show check back for my impressions of them.(hopefully i can read the notes as my sisters is doing them because I'm pick my old mans motorbike up :?)
Hay !!!!!! Guy's
by IXON on Comments
Yo!!! Guy's I'm still alive not had the best of comebacks and for that I'm sorry and P***ed about but my life changed in the last 12 months so my gaming slowed down a fair bit. (Actually a hell of a lot):(
All of this was because I met the girl of my dreams. I'm now engaged (as of Christmas), also passed my full motorbike test so been out and about. But I'm hoping to makeup for this over the next 12 months and beyond, I've had time to think and now I've planned what I'm going to do. ( I Hope...)
I'm aiming to get a lot more reviews and blogging done aswell as actually try to cover E3 myself, (failed miserably last year...... my fault but not this year). That being said I had a life changing experience 10 weeks ago when I had a motorbike accident, still off work with it but I'm not really bothered about that since, I've been catching up on some well deserved gaming some of which I'm currently taking notes for review.
So watch this space if you don't see anything give me a kick because I may need it, but none of this under construction rubbish just some honest grafting and also some fun filled gaming aswell ....... Peace Out :)
