Not loving the new system. It's a speed bump, it feels bloated, and it does have that "let's tie everything to social networking" reek to it. I get that change can be good, but I also know better than to assume it's always good. This seems like one of those cases where fine-tuning things would have been preferable to what's been done now. Not my site or my call, but that is my opinion, for whatever that's worth.
Gamespot's look and feel seem sorely diminished by this redesign. It also makes me worry a little about whatever comes next
I think there should be a rule that no remakes of any kind are ported to a console within it's first year. It's lazy and it gives off the scent of creative apathy. I'm not against them, mind you, I just think it's become a huge crutch people rely on way too much as opposed to creating proper sequels or original IPs. I don't enjoy buying the same game twice. Updating a few things doesn't sweeten the deal either, a new game designed for the system to really cash in on it's strengths would have gone a long way toward convincing me it's worth my time and money.
I can't help wanting to blame people that have paid for XBLG for this. Just like with DLC, it's another way MS decided it would further exploit people for money, and now that it's been as successful as it is (because people often have more money than common sense) MS has worked out ways to better, more effectively fleece people. That's what it's all about now; how to better exploit customers for as much cash as possible with the least amount of work. Just as with XBLG, just like with community breaking "map pack" or day one DLC, just as with the laughable Avatar Marketplace, I'm sure there are people that will this is a good deal for some reason.
I can't think of a single racing game that hasn't used really bad A.I. and cheap tricks to compensate for bad programming. From Kart games to anything trying to pass as "realistic" I've seen cars literally take hairpin turns at high speeds without slowing and in mid-air after flying off a speed bump. This genre doesn't need new hardware, it needs better developers.
I can't help wondering if people like Hoejengaard or Cliffy-B are even paying attention to what their demographic is saying, or are they in some kind of developer's ivory tower, blissfully oblivious to the vitriol they inspire from the fans they're stepping on.
I guess that answers me then. I've got to say, if this was meant to generate buzz, they've succeeded, but at what cost I couldn't predict. For my part, in my eyes Crytek has only managed to gravely damage their brand, joining Capcom, Ubisoft, EA, and a few others on my blacklist. Yes I have a blacklist.
Sony made it very clear they support Online Pass, so this looks like yet another attempt to curtail used game sales. More importantly, many of you have yourselves to thank. Assassins Creed Brotherhood and Revelations, Mass Effect 3, the upcoming Hitman and Max Payne games have all been pulling this for one reason or another, and the ones released have so far seen very positive sales numbers. As long as you buy their games, you give them your approval. Complaining about it on a message board will accomplish nothing unless you're willing to back your words with action.
