Alone in the Dark PS2

Well, since i can't write a review, i'm gonna say some things about the game here until i am able to.

First, it's underrated in some way.

I mean, i know the graphics sucks, the gameplay sucks and the story sucks, but it has something else..

Second, whose idea was to make PS2 version COMPLETELY different from PC and 360 versions?

I mean, they dont even look like different versions, it's a whole fcking new game, not only different graphics, but different gameplay and story too.

And third, even with those points against it, the game deserves to be played, why? because it's innovative, you won't find another of his category. I'll explain this.

Take for example Resident Evil, or Silent Hill, or Fatal Frame.. those games have the same mechanics: inspect the place to find key items, solve the puzzle, think in some complicated way to get through, etc, Alone in the Dark 5 takes this to a new level of inspection, you only have to shoot, run, jump, use your flashlight, close your eyes or just use the action button, there's no need for keys or cards, or whatever, but you still have to think, you have to think out of the bowl, go back to basic ideas.

Think about this, the first time you played a survival horror, didn't you think about shooting at the door you need to pass to break it? I sure did. Those puzzles drove me mad. Stupid glasses that can't be broke, weapons that can't be picked up, cars you can't use... etc. Those games made us think their way, so we got used to it (doors can never be shot to be open, you can't climb unless the game tells you so, etc). And Alone in the Dark changed all that, that's why i consider it's a survival horror worth playing.

Sure, it's not like the original ones but give it a chance.

It's not as scary either, i believe that, as the game gives you more freedom, the horror fact is los, so games like the first AinD, RE1, SH and Fatal Frame were really scary, cause they were 3ยบ person, graphics were worse, and the character had some serious limitations (especially for not being able to evade enemies easily, not being able to punch them, etc)

Conclusion: Alone in the Dark for PS2 has bad graphics, bad gameplay, horrible ending (it doesn't even end like the other versions), and i don't like the music. But the innovative fact made the game more than entertaining.

Score: 7.5
