A Short Blog: Episode 1: Return from IGNorance: Special 2: Wrath of Kahn

No, this isn't going to be some very deep post. I'm really just writing this to say that I've rejoined Gamespot as an active member of the community once again. (Thank you, all five people that may know me!) I've spent the past year using VGchartz and IGN as my main source of gaming info. VGChartz has constantly given me updates on whether or not my favorite game is selling. It also has interesting little contests like "Which is the most awkward moment in Video Game history?" that are fun to look at at home (or while I'm purposely skipping work in my online classes at school). I enjoyed VGChartz and still plan to use it to this day.

However, my quarrel is with IGN. No, not the Staff of good ol' IGN. The members there. I know Gamespot has them too...but most people just don't understand the quantity of tomfoolery over there at IGN. I read the articles and enjoyed them. I watched trailers and enjoyed them. I would even write reviews there and enjoyed writing them.

You wanna know what was wrong? After reading, watching, and writing, I'd decide to see the average opinion on said article, video, or review. What I found were comments that not only boggled my mind with ignorance, but comments that somehow made me angry. Maybe I'm spending far too much time on IGN or I'm just too attached to video games. Maybe that is the case.

I think the real problem is that, while every site has it's own flow of "troublesome" members (I'm looking at you Gamepro), IGN takes the cake. It's like there is a large guild consisting of members that decide to instantly hate anything IGN ever writes about. Sometimes their complaints relate to past articles or reviews, which is understandable if you're doing a comparison. They however are not and it sickens me sometimes. I've seen comparisons between Devil May Cry and Super Smash Bros Brawl. I kid you not when I say that I've also seen someone compare IGN's recently found fondness of Bayonetta to their disdain of a little known game called Breakdown on the Xbox.

Yes because an early 2010 Hack n Slash/Action title is so easy to compare to an late 2003-early 2004 First Person Adventure.

Gah, I won't bother anyone who happens to be reading this anymore. Maybe I'm just angered..but I've decided to stay here at Gamespot. At least there's less hatred over here...or it's better hidden. I can't tell at this point. I guess I'll just avoid the Console Wars section of the forum....does that still exist by the way?
