Nintendo as a circle

So I was on IGN just reading through there top console countdown article. While looking at the number 1 console, the Nintendo NES, and seeing all its most notable games, then i fully realized that Nintendo has basically been riding the same couple of games its entire life. Namely; Mario, Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Mega Man and (to some extent but I believe they lost the rights to or just didn't care about it or something) Castlevania, Contra, Metal Gear, Ninja Gaiden, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy. There might be other games that lasted through the years that I haven't heard of since I was born in the same year as the Sega Genisis.

Apparently, from what I read, it wasn't hard to actually make a good game compared to the competition. So anything that actually tryed to be a fun game looked like gold. In fact there is a batman game in the top 10 gamespot list of NES games. (Although this could be the secret good batman game that no one remembers from before this console generation) There are 3 Mario games in the top ten. In fact the top ten goes like this;

1. Super Mario Bro's 3

2. Super Mario Bro's

3. Legend of Zelda

4. Contra

5. Metroid

6. Super Mario Bro's 2

7. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!

8. Batman

9. Final Fantasy

10. Metal Gear

These are of course the game spot oppionions and anything could be argued about order and/or who is not on the list that should be. (To find this list I typed in google "Top NES games" and saw gamespot url under one of the links.) The point is that, how many of these games sequels or even the games have shown up on the Wii and how many are getting tired out. Mario can still be fun, but its basically the same game as the first one. The move up to 3D has expanded its life by a lot but even now it looks like its getting old. I have not played Super Mario Galaxy but from what heard on some podcasts and game articles is from E3 09 time, that the second one looks basically the same as the first one. New super mario's is basically mario with 4 people, which i doubt will make much of a difference in gameplay. The only very different Mario I know of is that of Mario Sunshine, which I loved. Right now it looks as though the hardcore nintendo gamer is living from one mario game to the next. With some metroid, and zelda games in between.

Legend of Zelda has what I feel the ability of the longest lifetime, just because its very puzzle oriented and can go with dark and light styles so easily as has been shown in the past. I've only actually played 2 zelda games unfortunately, a zelda game that was on the gameboy that I borrowed from a friend, which had all the save slots filled and he told me not to save over them. So I just played one of them and killed 2 monsters and got stuck because I had no idea where to go or what to do, of course in that situation I just stopped playing and did something else. My second legend of zelda game, which could have been the first one I played, was Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Which is my all-time favorite Gamecube game. It was fun though sometimes the boat thing was boring/annoying. Zelda is another game nintendo just piggybacks upon without care. Amazingly they haven't ruined it yet, though almost (yes I've seen those cartoon ones lol), by pushing them out almost every year. It appears to me though that no one really liked the Wii Zelda all that much, and the gameboy ones didn't get too much praise either. I mean Spirit Tracks doesn't look all that great and its basically going off of Wind Waker just like Phantom Hourglass was. Hardcore Nintendo fans now get to somewhat pump themselfs up for a sequel to a mario game on the wii and a zelda ds game. Though they get to get there hopes up from some mysterious Zelda game comeing to the Wii eventually.

I never really played contra but from what I've heard about it its suppose to be good. That was only an exclusive in 1992 and just recently for the DS in 2007 which got an 8.0 from gamespot. Another contra is coming out next week which is not to get more sales for nintendo. I mean its 2d and drawn like you know they didn't spend all there time on graphics with it. Maybe some on gameplay but I doubt that too.

Metroid is another game I never really played, I tryed to get into it on the Gamecube but the controls made me angry so I stopped playing it. They just released a pack of 3 metroid's on one disk. Everyone into metriod probably loved this unless they already owned all three. Doesn't seem though that this was something of a get as much money as possible from people who didn't buy the games for the gamecube. I won't say its not a good buy though with all the games rated high and everything. But Metriod is another game that hardcore fans piggyback one from the next too.

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!! is obviously for the older people who remember it on the NES. Final Fantasy which I believe brought JRPG popularity to the states, though that is just an observation and I could be completely wrong and it could be like Fire Emblem or something. Final Fantasy has of course moved to sony and is not also being on microsofts consoles. The only Final Fantasy games i have played are X and X-2. Which I've heard aren't the highest regard but I still thought they were fun and they helped me get into RPG's and story more.

Last on the list is Metal Gear. Which if you played the first games you would never have guessed that Guns of The Patriots were the same anything except name. Nintendo had only about 4 exclusive games from the Metal Gear saga (Metal Gear(NES), Snake's Revenge(NES), Metal Gear Solid(Gameboy Color), Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes(Gamecube). Which now of course the owner of the rights is now basically just getting money off it instead of just ending it like it should have been with GOTP.

In the past Nintendo has come up with some great ideas and new IP's. Now though it looks like in the process of winning a new console ip they have lost all there game ip's and are now just throwing out junk with the occasional piggy backing off of Mario, Zelda, Metroid, or any one of their old classics. I do not consider Wii Fit or the Wii Sports actual games any more then I consider those $10 pc "games" that have 50,000 little games on them actual games. I don't own a Wii but my parents do. The only reason I would get a Wii right now is to play the really old games that were great, but why should I do that when I can just do that on the computer all for free. I even have a N64 and Gamecube still so I can even just buy the actual games. The Wii is an utter failure as a gaming console, and for anyone who talks about the sale numbers can look at the sale numbers at diet plans, and then look at the actual use after the first week of each one.

Internet

So yeah I figured out the main reason why I can't play online games well on my ps3. Well it turns out its my router I plugged my ps3 up directly to the wall and I could play uncharted 2 beta perfectly... So i got to get my brother-in-law to come open the ports up and everything and hopefully that will work if not then I'm going to be POed because that was an expensive router and it makes my college internet, faster which is always a nice thing.

Ratchet and Clank

This is a great game I never got to play it when the ps2 was big but then I never really got to big into video games until the xbox and I played halo and kotor and when i satalite with g4tv(when attack of the show was good, xplay was good, and they had that vs game show which was the best). But yeah almost done with ratchet and clank just doing that one infinite bolts thing so i can get the ryno gun lol. Annoying though cause my tape keeps messing up cause they have it indented or something where the buttons are and you have to apparently push all the way down for this game.

Also after playing this game i've relized how spoiled we have gotten in a lot of games with check points and everything. I mean in this game if you die you basically go back to the begining and have to do it all over again which i cussed a lot at on some parts mainly the magnet boot parts. But yeah like in infamous your missions arent even that far from the mission point so when you die its really close anyways but I did get annoyed on non-mission deaths when I died and spawned all the way across the map.

ps3 online...

Ok so I pre-ordered killzone 2 and got the day it came out and played it non-stop. Then they did some updates my ps3 came up with error messeges so I get angry and stop playing killzone for awhile and just tryed it tonight and I still can't even get into a room and a stupid 5021 error messege of course comes up and all you can find on the web is some stupid thing about the mic and other random crap. It shouldn't be anything because I've always been able to play 360 games online with little to no lag at all at least on my part. It just pisses me off that I bought this game for that exact reason and I still can't play it month's after the release and now I can't play the new Uncharted 2 beta for 5 seconds without lagging and eventually it blacking out my screen and everything. So for now I'll just play infamous i guess its fun and everything but I was to know i have the ability to use the other half of my ps3 and also I stay fully connected to the internet when it boots me out of everything.

Just a little rant

Don't you hate when people who are usually really cool, turn into complete jerks online. I believe in trash talk and everything, but there's a certain line that's there that takes it from fun to just being a jerk. The worse part is, is when they earlier said they hate it when someone else always did it.
