Recently while browsing in my local game store, I picked up a copy of the legendary Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube. A game that's often considered one of the greatest ever made by most enthusiasts. Yet I was hesitant in picking it up for the mere price of $8. Why, you ask?
Well, I rented the game a long, long time ago and just HATED the controls. I couldn't get used to them, the game feeled too sluggish, and I just didn't like it. I didn't even make it through the first stage. So I never had a compelling urge to play it after this experience, and much less, buy it.
But, nonetheless, I convinced myself to buy this legendary video game, and now almost a week later, I've been absolutely sucked in by the world that Resident Evil 4 has to offer. This is a terrifying, extremely well-made game that has kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I'm still nowhere near the end of the game, but I want to try and savor it as much as possible... this is some of the most fun I've EVER had with a video game.
The controls took me some time to get used to, but it was sure worth it. There's a reason this game is universally acclaimed. This just begs the question.... what the hell was I thinking when I first rented the game?? Was I just stupid in my formative years??
Either way, I'm glad I've finally given this masterpiece a fair shot (maybe at around 12 years old, I just couldn't appreciate a game like Resident Evil 4), and I'm sure I'll spend a lot more time with this epic masterpiece.
