Twilight Princess

I know no one ever reads my blog, but this is for my own personal satisfaction.

When I originally saw the score, I was dismayed, but I didn't go out and flame the reviewers or anything, I waited patiently, though disappointed in GS, for the game.  When it hits, I play it night and day for... 4 and half days or so until I beat it, and come up with my verdict.  Guess what?  8.8.  I felt that to be extremely ironic, so much so, that I had to check over my scores in my review to make sure I wasn't making a mistake.  In the end, it averaged to 8.8.  I felt stupid for not liking a review without playing the game first hand, though I believe this is more Nintendo's fault.  They hyped this game to no end to try to sell the Wii, and when it turned out to not be the OoT style Revolution that was on the N64, we turned to blame the reviewers.  Then when we got our hands on it, we played maybe the first half of the game, and it is definitely good after the third dungeon, and some of us probably gave it high 9s.  After beating the game, the game reaches a low point, lower than WW's low point.

I think the 8.8 isn't bad, but lets just say its the end of the world bla bla.  Why did it fail to achieve what we expected.  First off, in my eyes, the story took too long to get going.  Sure, its a long game, but in Wind Waker, I was in the game in no time, and I felt like everyone mattered to me, doing the missions was important.  It took me to the fourth dungeon before I was truly into the game, though the 2nd and 3rd had me playing to see what happened next.  2nd off, this looks like a GC game.  No offense, but if this game is all the Wii can do, then the Wii will not live up to our expectations.  3rd, too easy.  This one isn't as easy as Wind Waker, but with my first run through with 2 deaths (both being cheap stupid deaths I could have easily avoided) and no boss fight deaths besides the 4th form of the final boss, I felt cheated.  Why no easy normal hard?  I mean, come on.

Now onto a bigger problem, the ending.  It was terrible, and probably cost it around 0.3 in a catagory to drop it to the 8.8.  I felt cheated at the end, just as in Wind Waker, but Wind Waker is getting a sequel making this one my new target as worst ending.  (A note, even if Wind Waker was not getting an sequel, this would still take the cake for worst ending)  They can have a cliff hanger, or something of the sort, but these types of endings just don't do.  How about you let me play after ganon is dead?  Or at least show more of what happens.  Please, don't leave me hanging at his death again.  We all know he is going to die at the end of every Zelda, but dang I want to see what happens next.  Does Link and Llia fall in love?  Or does he dump her for Zelda?  Does the Twilight Realm still have some other connection?  What happens to Midna?  Does she have a smooth transition back into power?  What about the reminents of Ganon's army?  I could go on forever.  Its not that these cause a cliff hanger, but it feels TOO resolved at the end almost.

Graphics in more detail.

There are a few moments of beauty in the game.  Jaw dropping awesome graphics.  Not because they are high polygon, or PS3 quality, just because they are well made scenes.  But then, when link opens the door to the final room of Hyrule castle, and he clips half his body through the door, it kind of ruins what ever graphics the game had going.  It needed more work none the less.  Textures are archaic in this game too.  I saw noticably blurry and downright crappy textures.  Models and Animation look great, though Midna's teeth looked a bit wierd at times.

The Wii mote

The only reason I can whole heartedly give this game as high of a score I did was because of how I felt with the Wii mote.  I'm a lefty when it comes to baseball and hockey, plus golf and such.  But I'm a righty at bowling and other sports.  Well, I felt more comfortable with the sword in my left hand, and other items in my right hand.  Its frustrating that I could not find ANY settings on if I could change what hand I held the Wii mote in for any actions.  If anyone has found options on it, please let me know.  Sound on the Wiimote is terrible.  I'll admit, I got used to the quality and managed to look past it by the 4th dungeon, but really Nintendo.  Charge 10 bucks more for the controller to put a decent speaker in it.  I don't care if its as much as a game, but don't penalize games that use it for having crappy equipment in the Wiimote.  Motion Sensor controls in the game work well also, but... its not any revolution over the controller.  Wii sports bowling on the other hand was.  What I would have liked, was more control over the moves.  I swing the sword up, I want an upper sword sort of attack, left, left slash etc.  Instead, any movement would start off the combo the same, leaving it up to you to figure out any of the similar combos which all do the same damage in the end.

That is why Twilight Princess is a failure in some of our eyes.  It isn't perfect.  We shouldn't expect that, but Nintendo promised us something better than the very definition of a perfect game, Ocarina of Time.  Nintendo did a great job and got DAMN close to doing it though, so congratulations for making a great game on an aging engine.  I mean, Wind Waker felt a bit aged, but that was helped by the colorful graphics and story, plus the fact you could control the camera, which made life easier.

Twilight Princess has all the same problems as Wind Waker, and the fact that it has come out much later on a new generation of console makes the errors all the more visible.

Finally got to this

Well, I've finally got to posting my blog. Well, what I plan to do is review Handheld and Wii (PS3 = I want it but too expensive, Xbox 360 = Would like to have but once again too expensive) games.

I try to keep my reviews fair, even though I am a fan of certain series. I just gave one of my favorite old games a 4 because of how bad the port was, it was tough for me none the less.

My favorite series right now is Zelda. I'm eagerly awaiting Phantom Hourglass and Twilight Princess. I used to hate Nintendo, but Master Quest and Wind Waker (The game that made me hate Nintendo all that time ago) has brought me back by its side. My favorite game right now is Wind Waker, Favorite Handheld is my DSP(DS in one pocket, PSP in the other), and I try to be impartial to which console. I got by a game per need basis. Wii has Twilight Princess so its number one on my list, PS3 has MGS4, and Xbox 360 will have Halo 3.

I plan to review games from an experienced gamers perspective, as I've been playing games my entire life. I plan to tear imports a new one also, as they are sometimes so bad, that I find out why they shouldn't come here.
I'm currently catching up, since I started reviewing recently, I'm catching up on all the games I have. Oh, and I dislike RPGs, turn based ones at least, but I should be pretty fair to them too.
