I've been trolling retro-gaming videos for quite some time, still in the process of figuring out how to get some retro stuff off of Ebay. I know, deep down inside I just want a super duper PC to play all the latest games! But then I something came to me that I want to share now, something I've always had on my mind since I've began gaming. Graphics! Back in the day's 1st it was all about gameplay, then getting the Arcade experience at home, and finally graphics. We wanted to be able to control real life people like a videogame, something like the FMV (full-motion-video) games found on the Sega CD and 3DO consoles. The main reason why we practically sold our souls to get those systems; we wanted the most realistic graphics possible! Looking back at it, I see it as a learning experience, we spent most of our time doing what we need to do just to get the games up and running; such as Night Trap, Road Avenger...but it all came down to networking; oddly. So did whatever we needed to do get our consoles at the time on the internet; I had some success getting NBA Jam online with the Sega Genesis. Then, again, it came back to graphics...and we've mastered that, but sorta fail in other departments; I swear; that graphics sell "videogames" to this day!
What I've notice is that most people don't realize that the remake of Mario isn't made by the same people who made the original Mario game, you know, the game that introduced you to the Mario character. I fell victim to that scheme...I bought the Contra game on iOS platform because it looked like the game I originally played as a child, and it does! But it's not the same, certain things are welcome such as the cool graphics and state-of-the-art sound; but I get the feeling that the people that created that particular game just did some research on the original game and implemented the latest in computer technology to recreate another game...I don't feel like the creators of the game have a real feel for the title, no real history with it...and it's not just that title, the same thing with Bionic Commando...all I'm saying is that the answer to remaking a classic isn't as simple as a graphical overload. "As if overload is finite".
