I am interested in gathering some statistics on Wii owners.

How many Wii owners are planning on just sticking with the Wii this gen?

How many of you are planning to buy a second or third console?

Please check the category in which you fall above.

This informal study may shed some light on whether the Wii stands in direct competition with the higher horse-power consoles or whether it is more of a complimentary product with the PS3 and the 360.

I don't think a few people on a gaming forum are going to give accurate results.

But anyway yeah, I'm undecided if I should repurchase a 360. I sold mine a while ago and ever since all my money on gaming has been spent on Wii games.

I'm aware that this isn't a sufficient sample size.

But it should give us some evidence....better than having no data at all.

The thing is that allows the Wii to sell so well is hype and pricepoint. Put a 360, Wii, and PS3 side by side released at the same time at thier original price points, you'd see exactely what you see now. Parents look at price first, hype second, actual performance third. Blu-Ray/HD-dvd are examples of this. While they are both better then standard dvd players people aren't willing to shell out money for a new next gen player when the price points were at 300+ starting and you could buy a regular dvd player at the gas station for 50 bucks.

I own a Wii, two DS's (daughter and I have one.) and 360 just because they are diffrent systems for diffrent things. Adding a PS3 to the mix would be to much and similer to the 360 hence why I don't plan on getting one. Basicly we use the DS's for portable play, low priced quality games, and diffrent interaction (enter Zelda PH). The Wii is used mainly as a party/friends console as it's very easy to pick up and learn. It has good games and you don't bore people who hardly play video games on what the x b a y buttons do but only if you're against a wall (continues on as he would irl explaining for 15 mins) The 360 is used mainly by myself (31, married, father of a 8 yr daughter, 5 yr son). It's the "daddy wants to play Darkness" escape not suitable for the children. Each console has it's strongpoints and complementing each one makes for a very rich gaming experiance without breaking the wallet or waiting on blockbuster titles with draughts between.

Assasins Creed and the waiting game for Christmas. Wife bought Mass Effect, LoZ Phantom Hourglass, Metroid, and a few others for me under the tree.

Blu-ray outsold HD-DVD 71:29 in week of 11/4/07

Blu-ray also outsold HD-DVD in 64:36 ratio this year and Blu-ray now holds majority of HD media market with 61% since inception

Hmm lets see who has more credibility, a CEO of a company declaring the format war a stalemate on 11/9 or an article from 11/4 of a misc magazine claiming Blu-ray dominance.

Game On...

You must not have seen the Toshiba HD-DVD players selling out at Wally world and BB recently then.

I saw Transforms been the highest selling high def title for either format yet Blu-ray outsoldHD DVD that week also

Those HD DVD players are a discontinued model. Sorta Like a clearance sale, Yet I sell Blu-ray selling to HD DVD in a 71:29 Ratio

Is there a reason why you are using old news as a basis for your argument?!? Stringer made his comment about a stalemate TODAY!!! Would a CEO make such a dramatic statement if Blu-ray really had a 71:29 ratio??? it doesnt add up!!!

Game On...

He knows the new prices on HD-DVD players and the holiday season with people buying HD TV's, they want a new player to use on that 720p/1080p TV. They see the prices and go for either a 199.99 player or a 399.99 player, which do you think they'll pick?

The A2 is discontinued...Not the A3 which is being sold for 199.99. If BR can't get a player out there in that price range this war is going to shift very fast to HD-DVD. http://bigtech.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2007/10/29/big-retailers-launch-hd-dvd-price-war/

Walmart Selling toshiba HD-DVD players at 99 bucks on sale is why sony is doing pre-damage control. BB, Walmart are selling out of these $99-199 players now and will continue to do so through christmas. If Sony can't come close to them in price point (curently lowest BR player is 400bucks) Then this war will be over sooner then you think.
