What about King Kong? The ORIGINAL easy 1000. And Condemned(970 pts not 1000 but no one said Sega could count). At least they`re decent games as well. Those of us who can`t stand sports games seem doomed to lower Gamerscores apparently. As far as toughies go, FEAR was brutal. I`ve played through the game several times and gotten a gamerscore of 115. It even has achievements that don`t have any points attached!
It is the least they could do considering they said it would never be released on PC, then took three years to do it anyway. Comparing any game that came out 3yrs ago to one out today is a silly exercise. Of course the new one looks better. Compare RED FACTION(first gen ps2) to GOD OF WAR II and you`ll see an equal level in graphical jump on the same system.
Pricing is irrelevant. If there were a ton of great exclusive games out for it right now the price wouldn`t matter. But there isn`t. Being an early adopter is always a gamble, and we all know it, but the difference is that when we`ve placed the bet in the past it was less than a months rent. That`s what the price discussion is really about. Can I afford to risk that kind of cash? Never bet what you can`t afford to lose, and if its you own money(not Daddy or Mommy`s) very few of us really want (or can afford) to risk that kind of scratch on a great piece of tech we only use on special occasions. And the fact is that the bet seems to be getting longer every day. Today Devil May Cry, Sony`s premium Capcom exclusive series went multi, making it even harder to say that your bet will be a good one. I expected the DMC move, though it still is a hard to believe now that it has happened, but if Metal Gear jumps too(and we`ve all heard the rumors)they`ll have nothing. Before fanboys cry FF, Square already has said that they aren`t backing Sony like they have in the past, which says to me they`re trying to let you down gently fellas("It`s not you, it`s me..."). If you want to see where the PS3 will be in a year or two, look at the PSP. It didn`t have great exclusives out of the gate, it lacked focus as to it`s true purpose, and for all the talk of horsepower there was a lot of talk about the price and how a price cut would help against the competition. They still haven`t cut the price or say when or if they will and it still doesn`t have many great exclusives. Sales aren`t going well and the format it was designed to push is a liability. It hasn`t found it`s focus or it`s place within the industry. It seems to be competing against other Sony products more than it`s competition and its own marketing department and executives are doing more harm than good. Meanwhile it`s "underpowered" competition knows what it wants to do who it wants to play to and how to get the job done. The PS3 needs to find a focus and stick with it. Value added is great, when it is just that. Added. What is the core focus of the PS3? What am I supposed to want to do with it? And saying things like "We could sell five million PS3s even if we released it without any games" and "rumble is so "last generation"" just makes me want it less because I don`t trust you or like you. Consoles aren`t just a piece of technology, they are a part of our lives. In many ways they are a friend and we view the people who bring them to us as friends too. That is why the rich executives who wouldn`t know us from Adam are so often referred to by their first names in posts to boards like this. Acting like people we wouldn`t want to let into our homes is hurting that "friend" factor and leaving the PS3 to stand on its own merits, when no newly released console can. So while we`re over here playing with Reggie and Peter and Major Nelson you`ll have to find the OLD Ken and Kaz to apologize for your behavior. When I left Sony for the 360 it hurt like a divorce. I know I`m not alone in that feeling. I know it`s a long post, but I honestly don`t want to see Sony destroyed. If they`ll learn from it I think they`d benefit from a kick in the pants. Bring back the old Sony for the PS4.
Two things: 1. I'm a gamer, gimme games. Sony seems intent on preventing me from playing games, with Home, and Bluray taking center stage. 2. I'm not buying tomorrow for next month unless I'm SAVING money. This is the first time where I could pay extra to wait. Talk about potential all you like. Just about everyone in this forum has had so-and-so `isn't working up to their potential` on a report card at some point. I'm not dropping that kind of coin on a system that might end up doing it's equivalent of cutting classes. Certainly not when the people telling me about the PS3s potential have mastered the art of saying something stupid with a foot already planted in their mouth. Until a game(or two) comes out that I must play, I'm happy where I am.
