World of Warcraft purveyor awarded damages in case against automation add-on.

Running a massively multiplayer online game with nearly 11 million patrons from all corners of the globe comes with its fair share of challenges, to put it mildly. While the vast majority of World of Warcraft-related problems can be settled in-game, Blizzard has shown no hesitation in taking its grievances to court. Primarily, Blizzard's efforts have been limited to the illegal buying and selling of in-game currency, more colloquially known as gold farming.

Another issue that has given Blizzard cause to loose its stable of lawyers is third-party software that runs counter to its End User Licensing Agreement (EULA). In 2007, Blizzard filed a counterclaim against MDY Industries, which sells the game-automation software WOWGlider, an add-on that lets players automate certain monotonous tasks in WOW such as repeatedly killing enemies to quickly gain character levels.

Blizzard's counter alleged that the automation software company was in violation of WOW's EULA, which prohibits third-party add-ons from being used with the popular MMOG. The counterclaim was in response to MDY's original suit filed in the US District Court of Arizona against Blizzard in 2006. As part of that complaint, MDY sought relief after Blizzard threatened the company with legal action, saying WOWGlider was a flagrant copyright violation and MDY was being unjustly enriched from the program, among other charges.

As reported by the BBC today, the Arizona court has awarded Blizzard damages totaling $6 million related to its first three counts against MDY. Experts had expected Blizzard to reap a higher sum from MDY, but as noted by the BBC, the company won a portion of its arguments as well as openly conceded the point that paying some form of damages would be reasonable.

Still outstanding in the case are issues related to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and whether the company's founder, Michael Donnelly, will be forced to pay the damages out of pocket. The court expects to hear arguments over these issues beginning January 2009.

Guitar ~not so~ Hero - Aerosmith!

Aerosmith Heroism!

Cover

What can I say about this game that isn't too bad?

It is cool that Aerosmith gave into the clutches of Guitar Heroism, but the game did not impress me.

It still has the same addictiveness of Legends Of Rock, but nothing new was brought to this installment.

They could have done alot more! The game still contains the same characters, graphics, store products, and although there are some new songs, the songs are not very familiar to most audiences and the only time you get to play as Aerosmith is if you unlock one of their songs by beating multiple not so popular songs.

I do not feel rewarded by this, and definately not by the poor selection of Guitars and Clothes for my "Character" to sport. I don't even pay attention to my character while I am playing the game, it just seems like I am playing the game to get to the next slightly more familiar Aerosmith song, that I can't even play as my character. Just going through the motions to give me some sort of sense of completion.

Overall, I think this game would be better as an expansion pack for $20 - $25 bucks, or at least let me download some of the Aerosmith songs for Legends of Rock. I feel that I wasted $63.00 on this game, and will never get it back, at least I didn't have to buy another Guitar. Should I have just waited for GH IVor is that going to be so far behind Rock Band that it doesn't matter?

Where have all of the multi-player games gone?

I am not talking about the simple disguised multi-player games like :Nights Journey Of Dreams: where they advertise that you can play with more than one player, but it turns out to be the cheesy race and battle mode that has become so popular from the Sonic Team. I am talking about games like :Endless Ocean: which is a multi-player game if you go online and play with some stranger who you can't even talk to. This game had the great potential to be a wonderful 2-player game, where I can explore the ocean with my wife right next to me in my living room. Another great example of this is :Sims 2 Castaway: The original Sims 2 is a 2-player game, so why not make this one a two player game? You have to actually create a crew, and play multiple characters at once. It makes sense to do the split-screen 2-player action. One exploring and one cooking or whatever at least you would have the option.

Also, why hasn't someone come up with a 2-player RPG? Some of my favorite all time games are :Fable, Prince of Persia & Zelda: Why not add a little more to a game similar to these with 2-player funcionality? How fun would it be to experience a story like that with characters that you and your friend can use to play at the very same time in the very same game. Traveling from place to place would be so easy. You could someone buying supplies while the other is on the opposite side of town visiting the blacksmith. I know alot of you are going to say that games like :Zelda: should'nt be multi-player games. Well, I agree, but it was just an example to show what these creators can do.

I have played :Gears of War: & :Halo: but like :Halo: there just isn't enough of the story invovled with the multi-player part of it. It goes back to the Sonic Team reference from the previous paragraph. :Gears of War: is actually one of the good examples of a great mulit-player game, but still not exactly what I am looking for.

I know there are also games like the fascinating MMORPG's. Which I think are some of the greatest inventions of all time, but my wife and I had to create 2 different characters and play 2 completely different games at opposite times. If we could play together at the same time without having 2 different accounts and 2 different games, with 2 different computers it would be much more convenient. Come out with a MMORPG that we can play on a console with as many players in your living room that you can handle. Wouldn't that be fun!? I know, its the whole hard drive thing and what not, but I need to take more advantage of my online capabilities of the Wii. There is a future to look forward to, but honestly - IAM TIRED OF WAITING!

Even just a simple 2-player game like the original Mario Bros. All of the games I played back in the '80's were multi-player games. I loved it and need that again.

Till then, I guess?

Wii Online?

So I was thinking of getting one of those USB Wii Online connectors for the PC. It seems a little expensive, but I think it would be a great addition to the Wii. Is it worth it?

Wii - I finally have one!

So, I went to GameStop yesterday, just see when they opened. I thought maybe I could find some great deals on some cheap used games. When I walked up to the door I noticed a small group of people standing there. It was 9 and they didn't open till 10. I was a little suspicious, so I told my wife to go park the car. Then I went and stood in line. 4th position at this point. My wife shortly came in and stood next to me asking why she is now standing in line at gamestop when we were just about to call shopping done. Just then she looked at the door and noticed a sign that read "Wii's available today, we only have 7" I couldn't believe it. The people ahead of us had just got there 10 mins before we did, and the ones in front of them were there from 7 am. At this point my adrenaline kicks in as more and more people show up behind us; 30 or more. The mins are slowly ticking away, we finally get inside and we each rush for a different line trying not to lose our spot we waited an agonizing 1 hour for. Luckily my wife is right in front, after the 7 am women of course. So, she says the wonderful words "I'll take 1 Wii, please" I was never more satisfied.

So, we have been playing it non-stop. The Wii sports are cool, tennis is the best. But, Mario Galaxy is amazing. Much more than I expected, it is really remeniscent of Mario 64. I love the vintage look and action of the whole thing. They really went back to they're roots, but with a new twist. We have only had it for one day, but I am sure it will be great. I am happy that I have a new Nintendo, following with the tradition of buying new Nintendos, and I get to play a great Mario game to introduce myself to the whole new generation of gaming.

I will probably write a review later on Mario, but I think it take me a while to get that far.

Thanks for tuning in,

Jahalo
