Top 10 PC Games of 2012

2012 has gone by so fast. And what a year it was. A year full of surprises and disappointments. So without further ado let me present to you my top 10 PC games of 2012. 10) Prototype 2 You could classify this game under "Just Plain Fun." Prototype 2 doesn't give you strong story or characters (though it tries). What it does give you is power. Crazy, awesome powers that let you wreak havoc on enemies and civilians alike. You get gruesome satisfaction when you slice and dice your way through hordes of the infected and then jumping into the air and Falcon punching a mutant. The open world gives you more space to go crazy. Too bad Activison axed the developing team. A sequel wouldn't have hurt. 9) Dishonored In a time when big bangs earned you big bucks, stealth games were thought to be dying. The same could be said for new IPs. But Dishonored proves them all wrong. With solid stealth mechanics and probably one of the best melee combat systems ever, this game has won the hearts of many (myself included). The satisfying and gruesome combat of the game just feels right. There are many powers and different ways to non-lethally or lethally dispatch people. Stopping time to possess an enemy guard and making him stand in the way of his own bullet is one of my best gaming moments of the year. I'm looking forward to more of this, Arkane. 8) Hitman: Absolution I have been a Hitman fan since Hitman: Contracts. Doing missions the way you want to held a certain appeal to me. Sure, this game isn't as open-ended as previous Hitman titles, but it still has that Hitman feel. Assassinating targets still require brain-work and patience. Completing your mission without being spotted is still as satisfying. The shooting also feels tight and fun. The new Instinct system is a welcome addition that helps you track people's routines and makes planning "accidents" easier. The graphics are also very slick and nicely done. Welcome back, Agent 47. 7) XCOM: Enemy Unknown The geniuses behind the Civilization series return with this addicting and tense turn-based strategy title. I have never played the classic XCOM games, so this was my first experience with the XCOM franchise. And what an experience it was! Nail-biting tension and addicting mechanics sucked 20+ hours of my life away from me. Every mission has you wondering if everyone in your squad is going to make it back alive. One mistake can cost you the entire campaign. Those two veterans you had in your squad? They've just been skewered by Chryssalids and are now killing their former squadmates as zombies, making your rookies lose their cool and start running everywhere. Mission failed. Welcome to XCOM: Enemy Unknown. 6) Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning This game is criminally underrated. It has a huge open world brimming with side quests. Fluid and flashy combat with a fairly interesting story, this wonderful RPG deserved much more. Even though I came fresh off Skyrim, the game never felt stale or tedious to me. I've sunk 50+ hours in it's vast, colorful world. The combat is the main attraction here. It's like an amalgamation of God of War and Fable. It's addicting and will keep you coming back for more. I wanted to see more from this IP. Hopefully a brilliant studio like CD Projekt Red or Bioware will pick this up. 5) Crusader Kings II Every year, there is a game that comes out of nowhere and totally blows me away. This is one of those games. This is the first grand strategy game I've ever played. Though it has a steep learning curve, you eventually get the hang of it in a few playthroughs. In every new playthrough I discovered something new. Plus, I'm a sucker for games that let you have your own lineage. This gem lets you do that and more. Deal with scheming wives and assassins. Be a just ruler or a cruel tyrant, the choice is yours. The 'A Song of Ice and Fire' mod for this game lets you have the true Game of Thrones experience. For those who love the series, I recommend you get this game now! 4) Max Payne 3 This game felt like a movie. A fast-paced, very well done action flick. With slow-mo headshots and depressed monologues, Max shot his way into our hearts. Even though it is very linear, the shooting is fantastic. Watching the bullet entering and exiting the victim's head was sadistic satisfaction. Rockstar's marvelous RAGE engine makes the shooting all the more fun. Technically, this game is superb. The realistic animations coupled with wonderful character models made Max's adventure all the more brutal. Also, the port wasn't as bad as the GTA IV port. The game ran quite smoothly on my PC. 3) Far Cry 3 Let me tell you the definition of insanity. Insanity is setting a tiger on fire and then watching it maul pirates while simultaneously spreading the fire to the nearby forest. Insanity is blowing a shark up with an RPG. Insanity is killing bears, komodo dragons, and leopards to make wallets. In short, insanity is Far Cry 3. With jaw-dropping visuals, an insane story, solid shooting, and unpredictable wildlife. Far Cry 3 is without a doubt, the best first person shooter of 2012. 2) The Walking Dead I hate zombies. They've gotten stale and are put into every single video game. They are like the military shooters of enemies. What this adventure game does is use the zombie apocalypse as a backdrop and focus on human interaction. The relationship between Lee, the protagonist, and Clementine involve some of the best writing ever. Don't let the cell-shaded graphics fool you. This is one of the most dark and depressing stories in video game history. There are brutal decisions that affect you and those around you. It's not about doing what's right, it's about doing what helps you survive. 1) Mass Effect 3 Dun dun dun. An epic trilogy ends with Mass Effect 3. Engaging characters, emotional moments, grand battles, this game has it all. The reputation of this masterpiece has been marred with the controversy about the lackluster ending. I agree that the endings leaves a lot of plot holes, but in my opinion, it's more about the journey than the destination. Would you ever forget those conversations with Garrus, the smart-ass quips of Joker, the ruthlessness of the Illusive Man, the Normandy? Those unforgettable moments have made the Mass Effect series what it is. Goodbye, Commander Shepard. Thanks for giving us one of the greatest epics ever made. All in all, 2012 was a great year for story-telling in video games. I can't wait to see what 2013 brings us.

Top 10 Games of 2011

Hello guys! Jamemba here and I'm going to show you my favorite games of 2011. 2011 was a wonderful year for gaming! There were awesome releases for every month except June and July (scumbags...). Since I don't own a console or a handheld (not counting my messed up PSP) I will only be presenting PC games. Some people say that PC gaming is a dying breed. Developers are focusing more on making console games than PC games. Stupid things like piracy gives PC gaming a bad name and scares the developers into making console-only games. Although I agree that piracy is absolutely annoying, I know that PC gaming is NOT dead. This year is perfect evidence that PC gaming is still strong. PC exclusives like the Witcher 2, Shogun 2: Total War etc. were absolutely amazing. If PC gaming was truly dead then we'd have only a handful of exclusives coming out. I will always support PC gaming because it's the reason I game. I remember playing Need for Speed 2 on my aunt's PC when I was only five. Those were absolute fun times. Long live video gaming! Okay, enough of the boring speech. Here are my top 10 games of 2011: 10) Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 A lot of people hate this game because it's the same as MW2, Black Ops etc. Even though it doesn't bring anything new to the Call of Duty table, it is very entertaining. 2010's Black Ops was absolutely amazing, but MW3 doesn't quite live up to BO's standards. But hey, it's Call Of Duty. Explosions, guns, shooting, more explosions, amazing set pieces, and a bit more explosions. This is what this game's about and it doesn't disappoint. The shooting is still solid, the controls are sharp, the set pieces are amazing, but the story is a bit bland. The story could have used a bit more work. Overall, it's a solid shooting experience, but it's only a matter of time before this series starts going a bit stale. 9)Bulletstorm Ah, Bulletstorm. Thank you for teaching me in the art of dick jokes. I had a 'ball' of a time shooting people in their butts and getting points for it. The points system was very innovative. I hope developers pick up this idea and put them in future games. Killing bad guys in style is the name of the game. And the dialogue. Where would Bulletstorm be without it? Phrases like "You scared the dick off of me!" and "Sushi-dick" made my day. This game would 'blow' without the skillshot system and the dialogue. You have to kill bad guys in such style that they don't see you 'coming'. Okay, I'll stop now. :/ 8)Dragon Age II Many people were disappointed with this game. They said that it was consolized and sucked. Though the game is a bit consolized it is very fun. The combat is fast and flashy. The conversation system is deeper and more complex. A lot of your decisions change the game world. The story was a bit of a letdown though. Kirkwall is not as interesting as Ferelden. Although it may not be as good as it's predecessor, I highly recommend RPG fans to check it out. It's really addictive. 7)Driver: San Francsico I was surprised by this game. I thought this would be another flop Driver title, but boy, was I wrong. This is one of the best driving games I've played this year. There are a variety of missions to do. From racing to scaring people. This game's got it all. The vehicle models look fabulous. The new Shift feature is very innovative. It lets you drive any car you want anywhere on the map. How cool is that? Having trouble getting rid of the cops? Just bash them with a truck and make them wish they were never born. There are many cars to choose from and the best part is that all of them have interior views which makes the game 40% more awesome! 6)Dead Island I hate zombies. I'm tired of them being featured in everything. This game changed my mind. Dead Island is a completely different zombie experience. It has an open world, driving, first-person melee combat, and levelling up. First of all, I loved the combat. Hacking and slashing at zombies has never been this fun. The damage model is what makes it fun. It's very realistic and disgusting. It will make you cringe and smile at the same time. You can also play four player co-op. Driving around with a group of friends is immensely entertaining. It's like a small zombie massacring party. This game has brought a lot to the table and I'm eagerly expecting a more polished and better written sequel. 5)Dirt 3 I used to love driving games when I was like 10. But in recent years, the lack of satisfactory driving games made me lose interest in the genre. Back in 2009, Dirt 2 was the game that made me fall in love with the genre all over again. The graphics, the handling, the races. It was all perfect. Dirt 3 does it all and then some. It's still the game I fell in love with but with better everything! The various tracks were absolutely beautiful. From the dirt tracks of Kenya to the forests in Finland, they all look beautiful. I can't wait to see what Codemasters does with Dirt 4. 4)Deus Ex: Human Revolution A sci-fi RPG first person shooter? Meh. Or atleast that's what I thought before playing it. When I did play it, it blew my mind. You can do almost anything. That man pissed you off? Help yourself. Deus Ex: HR allows you to complete missions in a number of ways. Although these types of non-linear quests have been present in a lot of games, this game takes full advantage of it. You can either tip toe your way past the guards or beat the living $#!% outta them. It's all your choice. This game also brings forth the question of augmentations. Are they good for society or are they bad? Questions like these make the plot stronger and more interesting. The stealth gameplay is challenging and very tense. That's what adds to the fun. These points make this game absolutely awesome. 3)The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings This PC exclusive is absolutely beautiful and captivating. It kept me on my toes from beginning to end. The Witcher 2 has RPG classic written all over it. The story, the graphics, the combat, and the moral decisions. These are what makes this game so good! Your decisions can even change the whole story. That is what I look for in RPGs. How much do your decisions affect the world? There is no good or evil. Only what is necessary. Geralt is neither a hero nor a villain. All he wants is a peaceful life, which is something that keeps evading him. The characters feel human and makes the story better. More developers need to add a human touch to their games. 2)To The Moon Speaking of human touch, this game is the mother of story-writing. It made me cry and I'm not the one who usually cries during movies. At first, the Gameboy-like pixel graphics made me doubtful. To The Moon proves you don't need big cinematics or voice actors to make a good game. Good writing can take you a long way. The gameplay isn't the main attraction here. It' the story. The story will break your heart, mend it, and then break it again. It's funny, heartwarming, and beautiful. It's simply one of the best games I've ever played! The music really adds to the story and makes the game even better. I doubt the story would have had much impact without the music. Hats off to the guys at Freebird Games! I'm looking forward to your next project. 1)The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim I guess it's no surprise, but Skyrim is freaking awesome! The amount of stuff you can do here is unlimited. I played Oblivion, but it failed to suck me in. Skyrim pulled me into the world as soon as the prologue was over. The world is huge and beautiful. You can do anything you want. There are no limits, no boundaries. The story is pretty interesting. Stop the dragon god Alduin before he destroys the world. Even after finishing the main story, Skyrim will keep you coming back for more. Skyrim itself is a beautiful place to explore. Random little events add to the immersiveness of the game. The combat is not that good though. It feels loose and unsatisfying. Combat is just a small blemish on this absolutely amazing game. Moar of this please! So here you are guys. My top 10 games of 2011. It may change though since I still have to finish some games like AC: Revelations, Batman: AC, Saints Row The Third etc. I'll edit this if any of those games crack my top 10 list.

Gansters or Dragons?

It's time for the release of this month's highly anticipated games, MAFIA 2 and ELEMENTAL: WAR OF MAGIC.

Mafia 2 is a 3rd person shooter, developed by 2k Czech, that is a sequel to the 2003 classic Mafia: The City Of Lost Heaven. This game has been compared to the Grand Theft Auto series, which mixes driving and shooting. You play as Vito Scaletta, an Italian-American soldier who has recently returned from World War II.

Elemental: War of Magic is a fantasy 4x turn-based strategy game developed by Stardock. In this game, you play as a sovereign (who you get to create [YAY!]) who has to use magic and help his kingdom. Along the way, you get to hire heroes, fight creatures or other factions, upgrade your character, and create items (once again, YAY!).

SO which game will you buy? Mafia II or Elemental: War of Magic?

Which game should i buy?

well my monthly allowance is coming and i wonder which game I should buy. Please help me choose. Should I buy Mafia 2 or Elemental: War of Magic?
