When I first read this question I thought that such a scenario would be my worst nightmare for PC gaming. With Windows 8, it looks like things are taking a step in that very direction! In fact, worse. It looks like Microsoft want to get rid of desktop games on Windows altogether.

Now that it's fairly clear that Microsoft's long-term strategy for Windows includes plans to deprecate the desktop, desktop applications and desktop games, I think it would be a timely move by Bohemia Interactive to release a version of ArmA III that runs on native Linux. Especially in light of the fact that valve have now released a Steam platform for Linux.

Blizzard have recently announced that they'll be releasing a game for Linux, while the developers of Unity 3-D have added Linux compatibility in the latest update of their game engine, so it just seems the perfect opportunity for BI to do it right now.

By the way I'm not a Linux fanboy, I'm a Windows user but since Windows 8 I just don't trust Microsoft any more.

Hey everyone.

We have two kinds of bugs that have happened over login issues. One was a fault of our own, and the other is a technical issues we're still trying to determine. What I've noticed is that many people from outside U.S. encounter the problem the most. So, if you wouldn't mind, please report your location and browser in this topic.

Location: (Country only)
Browsers used: (IE, FF, Chrome, Opera, Safari)

Band-aid fix until this is resolved, you'll have to change your password; sometimes more than a couple of times in a month. We do apologize for the problem as we continue to determine a solution.

I thought it was just me. let's hope they fix this soon - it's highly annoying not to be able to structure your reviews with paragraphs. Anyone found a workaround?

I think anyone who has an interest in Flight Simulation will agree. The most stupid thing about Flight is that fact that Microsoft decided to develop and own all the DLC itself, locking out all third party developers (except by invite); and yet have so far failed to deliver any exciting content. We're still stuck on Hawaii and flying through hoops in GA aircraft. Nothing here is new - nothing impresses. Where do we go from here?

All MS had to do was fix the problems in FSX, make it support multicore processors and DX11, revamp the interface and make some general all round improvments such as to the ATC and so on, and it would have been a sure winner.

The philosophy behind Flight is so stupid that it could only have emerged out of corporate bureacracy far removed from the original vision of Bruce Artwick. I mean, to strip away functionality and make it simpler to make it more accessible? Imagine doing that with software like Excel, or Photoshop. "Let's take away all the complicated fixtures and just have a few simple functions and then we can sell it to six year olds". It just doesn't make sense. But as I said, we're talking about a corporate bureacracy here.

And when will Microsoft discontinue GFWL? No-one likes it, and fewer and fewer publishers want to use it.

starts charging you an annual fee to play any game that's compatible with windows, what will you do? Honestly, what is there to do? Apple? Overpriced and underpowered junk. You have to stick with the windows OS. Expect PC gaming fees down the road. MSFT will do this thanks to their successful xbox live experiment.BattlefieldFan1

That won't happen, but they might start charging a periodic fee for using Windows, and for using their own software. However, right now it seems that Microsoft are into experimenting with "Microtransactions" via their Games For Windows Live Platform. Their latest incarnation of Flight Simulator, known simply as Flight, is a watered down version of their classic, integrated with their GFWL paltform and downloadable for free. The free download gives you two aircraft and a island of Hawaii to fly around on. Anything else you have to buy, and so that far that amounts to very little.

I don't see this as a problem, except for that fact that Microsoft has decided it will have the exclusive right to produce add-ons for the game, and have banned freeware. This is not good, if one takes into account the 3rd partyadd-on industry that had evolved around previous versions of the simulator, and it's not good for those with a creative disposition who enjoyed produced their own add-ons just for fun. You can read my review about here, at Gamespot.
