You ate the gum? That can't be good. Chewing gum instructs your stomach to produce hydrochloric acid to ingest what it thinks it is going to get (real nutrients), and when it doesn't, it regurgitates the acid up your esophagus, causing heartburn (and in the long run, esophageal cancer). If you swallowed the gum, that is worse in the short term, as it is indigestible and will most likely cause constipation on the way out.
