2008 was an up and down year for gaming, and like every year is had its flops and its hits. To usher in the new year I figured I would share my favorite game of 2008.
To start tho, there were many games I had great hopes for, almost all of which failed to meet my expectation. The biggest in that category was Spore. It was a fun and addictive game at first... but in the end it just became repetitive and one of those once a month games. GTAIV was also a huge downer for me, but for the record I am not the biggest fan of the series to begin with. Fallout 3 was really the only hyped up game that really met my expectations.
Two games surprised me the most this year were Left 4 Dead and Dead Space. I am not a fan of zombie games generally, but L4D hit the ball on their game making zombies who traditionally are slow and clumsy now fast and insane. The game hooked me in immediatly taking up the majority of my winter break. Horror games are also usually let downs for me, but the environment and setting of Dead Space worked perfectly creating an erie and terrifying game, and for the first time in my gaming experience I actually got a little scared at some parts (as hard as it is to admit). The story worked magically and brilliantly.
But my favorite game of 2008 is going to have to go to Left 4 Dead mainly because of how addiciting it was for me. It hooked me and I still find it fun, despite countless hours of playing. I cannot wait for the sequel to this great game.
