Brief E3 Impressions

I have to say this year was better than the years I have attended. Aaron Thomas asked me on the spot (no pun intended) in his video blog he made but to be honest it was a little more than 4 years. I went to E399 and E32000 for Mplayer, E3 2001 for GameSpy, E32005 for GameShark, E32006 for GameSpot and this year for GameSpot!

Majority of the games I saw were at our location at the Santa Monica Pier this year. It was obviously weird not being able to just stop by a booth and pick up a controller to play. I think the E for All event may help on that end but I did miss stumbling upon interesting games through that way.

The games that stood out include;

- Call of Duty 4 was the main game that really impressed me when I watched the MS press conference. It left me wanting to know what was going to happen and how I could attack. I am sure you just lay low but there were vehicles up ahead so how do you remain down like that if you have the possibility of being ran over?

- Assassin's Creed looked really good. I didn't know much about the whole bird thing until the stage demo but it just keeps getting better and better each time I see it.

- Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 was a game that had me laughing out loud. Especially during the rock band mini game for smoke on the water. I liked what I saw, and wanted to ask someone to take my place to ask questions so I could get on the stage and play! Can't wait for this one. Although since I have only played this game on the 360 I think I need to try the game on the Wii version.

- Mercenaries 2: World in Flames was a game that I really liked because it was about blowing things up. It reminded me of all of the times I would get my commando and demolish buildings in Command and Conquer. I gotta a present for you! *boom* The constructions blew up really nice too.

- Blacksite: Area 51 demo stage was neat when they were in the helicopter. I liked how the helicopter was everywhere so it added more of the realism to it.

- Stranglehold actually surprised me. I had heard people mention the game name before but had no clue what it was about. For some reason I related it to a role-playing game and not the Chow Yun Fat movie.

- Unreal Tournament 3 looked really impressive. I liked seeing the vehicles I saw, and it reminded me more like the Gears of War style. I am not certain what to call that style of graphics but it works great for the GoW. I hope it works good for UT3. When I heard that the spider mines were going to be in the game it brought a smile to my face. heh, you gotta love aiming those little guys at someone and seeing them try to get away.

- Heavenly Sword was a game I saw at E3 last year and it seems to look better and better the more I see the gameplay. I love these type of fighting style games with a storyline.

- Fatal Inertia sort of reminded me of F-Zero only you could do a lot more. I like these types of games so I definitely want to give this game a try once it's out.

- Little Big Planet was actually a game I wasn't around to see since I wasn't at the Santa Monica pier at the time but I heard so
much about it from different people at the event so I checked into it when I got back from E3 last night. It looks like a really interesting game.

- Hellgate: London was a game that intrigued me. It was more about the concept than anything. I didn't have any hands-on and couldn't see the gameplay too well but the whole idea of what the spokesman (really cute guy btw!) mentioned made me want to give it a try.

- Rock Band looked good too but since I dont sing songs that are considered rock I dont know how well I'd do with the singing portion.

And of course I am still looking forward to TF2 and ETQW! Long love.. I mean long live Quake! I don't believe I have ever had this many games I am looking forward to. I think game companies are staying on top of their game more than before. It's great to see so many awesome games coming out in the next year or two! I just need more time and money to play all of them.

I met so many great people on my little project I was working on. I can't wait to share those moments in my E3 2007 journey.
