I was thinking that he was closer to resembling more like Dr. Smith than Baltar, except for the genius part.

[QUOTE="shockwave04"]I'm glad they are not making Eli the new Rodney in this show.buzzard31581

Yeah, he's smart, but not too smart. And he has the ability to think outside the box. A good description might be "Jack of all trades, master of none." He can do a little bit of everything, but doesn't know everything about one subject and nothing else, or everything about everything in the case of McKay.

I suspect that McKay had Aspergers. I'm hoping that Eli will stay sort of an "everyman" for the show, maybe a little clumsy but not obnoxious. Rush is getting there though; I just hope he doesn't get too petty, cowardly, or narcissistic.

So caffeine and nicotine are the cause of Rush's problems! LOL Since the beginning I get the feeling he knows more about what's going than he's letting on. I didn't think Eli would be 25; I was expecting him to be something like 19. The show's a soap opera like Ronald Moore's BattleStar Galactica; slow paced, less action, and more tension.

Definitely slow paced, I think probably to build the tension, which they sacrificed plot and action for. I think even now that its a lot more like Ronald Moore's Battlestar Galactica than like the earlier Stargates. I still like seeing O'Neil even though he's definitely getting older.

There was a frontal nudity scene in the pilot of SG-1 when it was on Showtime, but it's been clean as a whistle ever since. I think it was another sign of the show trying to be like BSG. The kid I think is being used as an "everyman" to be related to. It depends on to what extent they let him be human and not obnoxious. I hope they keep Rush mysterious and not obnoxious or whiny either. Obnoxiousness made McKay rather annoying in SGA and whining did the same for Baltar in BSG. Actually SGU already has a few potential annoying characters, but maybe they'll become more three dimensional as the show goes on. I assume we'll see aliens when they go through the stargate in the next episode. But if they have an enemy I hope they don't retread past Stargate episodes. Oh, and I hated all of those commercials every ten minutes!

I think the episode resembled a Ronald Moore's (the newer Battler Star Galactica) vision of Stargate, slower paced, tense, dank, and hyper-realistic. I'm okay with it. I thinked they faked us out in the advertising about some of the stars, including Lou Diamond Phillips and the SG-1 crew. They really were just cameos. Richard Dean Anderson was his cool smartalecky self but looking a little doughy (sigh...). And why would someone of his rank be delegated to going to the house to see the kid? (uh to give us a reason to show him maybe?) Anyway I think we'll get how the show will work next week when they start exploring other planets.
