An article on why I believe MMOs have been consistently failing:

What do you think? Can an MMO really shine and be enjoyable at length without a good community, without friends with whom to play?

I'm looking to buy a new multiplayer game that is really going to capture my attention for a long time to come. It seems there hasn't been anything quite special enough in a long time, so I'm basically still playing DOTA constantly. I'm trying to decide between a few recent titles...

COD4: Everyone is raving about it but I'm not usually as much of a fan of cut and dry shooters. Perk system might be innovative and interesting enough though...

Crysis: I love the demo and figure the suits abilities would make multiplayer pretty interesting. With this game I'm a little worried about the community though. The objective based multiplayed sounds right up my alley but maybe no one even plays it!

World in Conflict: Don't know a ton about this game but I've been reading that it is absolutely intense online and great for team play, which is ok with me.

There is probably more out there to play, but these titles seemed the strongest (UT3 is far to similar to past titles, for example). Know that I can run all these games on high settings, so thats not a factor.

What do you think?
