I have a similar problem. When I start L4D sometimes it takes forever to open after it's loading. Sometimes it will also load and go to a black screen, but instead of starting up my computer screen says "out of range" which is the warning it gives when my screen is unplugged from the computer. Lastly when I close L4d so I can play another game it will just freeze at the menu screen for like 30-40 seconds.

I think it's just Steam and we can't really do anything about it =/

Two things come to mind. The first is that you don't have enough memory to load the game. google how to increase your page file and that might help.

The more likly I think is that your antivirus or vista it's self might need permission to run the program and might not let it load until it gets the permission. Have you tried hiting cntrl+alt+delete and checking to see if a permission box is running? This has happened to me on several games with vista and it hasn't been that big a deal except sometimes its hard to minimize the game to click the accept button. Either way I would look into this because it should be a one time fix.

nope, the permission thing is NOT running. but thx.. :(

when i 1st time ran it.. it just loaded.. loaded.. loaded.. loaded for about 1 hour and then the game started!

but thats not a big deal. thegameitself never opened, but a black screen and then, a (my TV's themed) window appeared

and it said "Tilaa ei tueta" wich finnish, and means in english: "state(or what ever) is not supported" then i must quickly

press ALT+TAB so the computer wont crash. now i see my desktop and hear the sounds of the intro.. im so desperate!

WHAT SHOUD I DO! MY COMPUTER MEETS THE RECOMMENDED SETTINGS!!

just.. help. :? (P.S. Im using a TV screen. like in you livingroom, not a reqular PC screen and YES i have Vista)

Edit: I have tried to re-install the game and update my drives, none works.

Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, s.t.a.l.k.e.r. (both), HL2, Doom 3

P.S. sorry for a bit off-topic but thats how they are ranked in my house!

yesterday, I was playing R6Vegas.. it worked as normally (fast loads & little bit of crashes)

but to day: I start my computer, log in as administrator, run my R6Vegas, it opens up a window "Play Game" and something else like "uninstall game"

I press "Play Game" then it searches for pach (none found) then the patcher closes, and NOTHING happens (??????)
