Nocturne is more of an essential SMT game, being in the main series. It has all the post-apocalyptic hopelessness of SMT1 and 2. It's pretty hard, but if you do get stuck it will usually be on a boss, and you'll just have to experiment with what elements you have on your side and such. The whole atmosphere of the game is damn near perfect in my opinion, it flows so well. I highly recommend this game. After that, just check out Persona 3/4 or DDS. If you like those work your way back to the old Persona games, hopefully you'll enjoy those as well. SMT1/2 are on SNES, and ARE available if you know how to get them, I wouldn't recommend playing these first though, they're dated, very good games, but dated.

I'm saving up for Chrono Trigger, I haven't really touched my DS in about a year actually, kind of sad because I wanted to play quite a few games. CT is worth it though. Also, I wouldn't mind picking up Dragon Quest IV, either that or I'll wait until V is released on the DS and have some fun with that little gem.
