I would go with Freedom Fighters if I were you. Its a great mission-based shooter and its extremely cheap to buy.

If you've never really enjoyed the MGS series, then I wouldn't even bother going through it. Video games are for fun, so if you're not enjoying a certain game, it doesn't make much sense to keep plodding through it just because it got a high GS score or because someone else said it was great. Its all about what you like.

Just because I'm a creature of habit, the original MGS holds as the best for me. I have to say though, some of the stuff at the end of MGS2, like when the "Fission Mailed" message would come up even though you hadn't died yet, did a very effective job of creeping me out.

This is a tough call only because it seems like there aren't any truly showstopping titles coming out for PS2 anytime soon. There are a lot of titles that will do well, but nothing earthshattering like a God of War 2 or a Final Fantasy sequel. Manhunt 2 looks to be the biggest game on the horizon to make a splash but that might not even be released. I can remember the "endgame" for PSone being a pretty consistant slew of mediocre games with a few decent ones (GS rating 7.5 and up) thrown into the mix. It seems that that is the way PS2 is going right now. I'd say by this time next year, PS2 will be just about done.

Technically, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 can be played as a 3rd person shooter, which is pretty decent (first one is a little better in my opinion). If you're talking strictly 3rd person, I'd go with Freedom Fighters. Brilliant game with a cool story and great action. Mercenaries is a decent game as well, though I got slightly bored with it. Either would work as a worthy third-person shooter.

38 games. Gotta break 40 before 2005 is over.

I liked the first one the best. I found the story was a little bit better and easier to follow.

I logged 6 hours playing Driver 2 way back in the day once. I think 6 has been my max at any given point in time though.
