Which controller did you get exactly? Was it actually labeled as a 'wired Xbox 360 controller for Windows'? Or is it just a regular Xbox 360 controller? Because from what I understand, regular Xbox 360 controllers (wired) will not work on the PC. I have an adapter for my wireless Xbox 360 controller, which works, but the controller won't work when it's plugged into the computer with the play-and-charge cable and the adapter removed.

Any wired 360 controller will work for the PC. You just can't use a wireless through the plug and play USB cord. You need a wireless adapter for wireless 360 controllers...

Ah, I see! So a standard wired Xbox 360 controller will be detected properly by the computer for full use, as in, it'll register correctly without constantly flashing? Because a buddy of mine got a wireless one but didn't get the wireless adapter, thinking the controller would be detected as a controller with the play-and-charge cord, which I now figured is not the case, so I can tell him to either get a wireless adapter or return it and get a wired one.

Edit: So for a wired controller, does it still need to be the "for Windows" kind?

Any wired Xbox 360 controller will work fine. Doesn't have to specify "For Windows."

[QUOTE="Timbury"]Hi overhead I had a Phenom II 1090T before my current build and was able to get 4GHz out of it with 1.4-1.45 volts stable. I'm guessing you just up'ed the multiplier and left vcore on auto? There should be lots of guides on how to overclock hexacore phenoms online easily. Just make sure you have adequate cooling.overhead_drums
Cheers mate, I have a liquid cooling system on my CPU. I've managed to up it from 3.3 to 3.6Ghz. When i go any higher with the multiplier it crashes to a blue screen telling me windows has done it to protect itself. What do i do in this case? does it need more volts? Cheers

Same thing is happening to me with my 965, I have it at 3.7 stable, but as soon as I go any higher even if I increase the CPU Voltage I get a bsod. A few people told me it has something to do with ram, but im not sure.

Leave everything on auto and yes change the core voltage.
You are fine all the way up to 1.5v for the cpu voltage, if you are on air you are probably going to run into heat problems before you get there anyway.

I wouldn't recommend 1.5v on a 965 but i guess it's up to TC.

1.45 max?

Stock clock is 3.4Ghz. So when I increase the voltage do I increase the CPU Voltage and not any of the other ones?

godzillavskong
I would just slowly increase the multiplier in the bios first. I wouldn't even mess with the voltage yet. I got mine from 3.3(stock) to 3.9 stable without having to touch the voltage,

I can only get to 3.6 on stock voltage, anything after that is unstable. Crashes after 15 minutes of prime95.

Just to clarify I had another thread on this, but my question never got answered. I have gotten my 965 to 3.6ghz stable overclock with stock voltages, but I want to go even higher, but I am not quite sure which voltage to increase. The stock voltage is 1.35, so should I increase it in .025 increments?

I used to be a big console guy when I was a kid, but once I realized mods and the potential of PC's I had to switch over. One of the biggest reasons was that I loved Morrowind, Oblivion, and the Fallout seriers and when I was looking up cheats I discovered the huge variety of mods, enhanced graphics. At this point I just had to own a PC. So I saved up some cash for like a year and a half and built myself a nice gaming PC. Never going back.

Yeah, I think I have to do that for mine. I may get around to it as I've heard great things and my CPU does take a beating on certain games.

Cwagmire21

Yea with my HAF 932 I had to remove the motherboard to get at the backplate, but its really not a challenge, just a little time consuming.

Until a certain point OC'ing a phenom II is quite straight forward . Just go into bios and raise the cpu multiplier Most phenom II's on air can hit 3,8-,3,9ghz without voltage tweaking ( though some will only get to 3,6ghz while a few lucky ones can even do 4-4,1ghz )
Just oc in small steps until you find a stable OC. Start off with 3,6ghz which is quite achievable and then go 100mhz increments until 3,9ghz and if you feel lucky try 4,0ghz ( though you will most likely need to increase cpu voltage to go over 3,9 ) adamosmaki

Really? I can hit 3.6 without voltage tweaking, but after that I crash in about 15mins running prime95. I really want to hit 4.0ghZ, but im kinda scared to increase the voltage.

cpu voltage

Which Voltage would I increase?
