From what I was told, farming with the quest activated "might" increase your chances of getting the shield. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to be given a dupe of the Bee Shield.

It honestly depends on how the Community College in your area is like. I live in Oklahoma, and have taken some classes at one near my house. It's similar to high school. The classes won't be as hard as say, a university college, but will most definitely be a step up from the average high school. If you want a good college experience, try to get involved within the school. I say this only because commuting to a community college won't be much different from your senior year in high school.
