@bdrtfm: It may not be deep when you compare it to books or movies, but it's still deeper than 99% of story-focused video games, which historically are amateurishly written compared to film or literature. Only games like Bioshock have been as deep or as well written as books (but then again it was based off of Atlas Shrugged). It was still a great story and the acting was definitely film quality. So much emotion in their acting as well as the mocap. That final fight scene was probably the most visceral fight I've experienced in any video game. It quite literally brought me to tears (go ahead and call me a pussy for having feelings and emotions. I'm used to it and couldn't care less). It left me empty and hollow, just like Ellie and I'm sure that was the point. The themes of duality were very well done. By the end of the game, Abby's journey mirrored Ellie's and the game did a great job of making the player sympathize with Abby. Unless you're closed minded that is. It sorta is the narrative equivalent of making a Democrat sympathize with a Republican or vice versa and most of the country isn't mentally capable of doing that so I see how that would be a divisive plot element. But overall, the presentation and gameplay were so rock solid and damn near flawless in my opinion (all I want is 60 fps) that it made up for the fact the story wasn't as well paced as the original. 9.5/10 and GOTY. Nothing I played this year even came close except perhaps Persona 5 Royal but that's a rerelease so I wouldn't give it GOTY just for that. TLOU2 is incredibly well made video game and I will die on this hill proudly.
@lionheartssj1: the bland open world killed it for me. I was bored to tears the second the let me loose in the open world. Plus most of the side stories were inconsequential and uninteresting. Also, it’s control fluidity and stealth mechanics pale to the likes of TLOU2.
@bdrtfm: to show there are tons of people who loved the game. I can’t wait for my brother to come down to my state for Christmas so he can give me back my copy and I can finally start my permadeath playthrough on PS5.
