It depends. HoD is better if you enjoy a more classical Castlevaniastyle of gameplay. Themusic in HoD is not nearly as good in AoS, and HoD also features a much more simple battle system.HoD is also roughly twice as long as AoS if you plan on getting 100% on the castle and bestiary.

AoS is kind of a breakaway from previous installments, as the game is set in a futuristic setting, and your main character can wield a variety of weapons instead of just whips. Also, the soul system features a good amount of customizability to your style of play. The sound and graphics are much cleaner in AoS. Also remember that this game is fairly short.

They're both good games, it really is hard to say which is better.

HoD is actually pretty good.
