Alright guys well thanks for your posts. I never really thought about it all that much in that way. I thought Tyler's way was useful until around the end of the movie, because he tells the narrator that he is every way he wishes he could be, so everything Tyler does, would be what the narrator wants. But yes, I realized it's not exactly 100% about becoming Tyler Durden. Maybe the thread should have been "Tyler Durden's Morals of Life." Also for those of you who said I should read the book, I definitely intend to, as I hear it's good. I know the ending to the story in the book, and when I heard it I thought "wait why is it like that?" But I realize now, that it gives a better impression that Tyler's way isn't always the best.

Anyone seen Fight Club? It's definitely one of my favorite movies. I'm about to do a nice big list of the messages that I see in it, so if anyone hasn't seen it already, certainly watch it. You don't want this whole thing spoiled. And also, all the quotes are from the movie, and when I say "he" I'm talking about the narrator (main character).

You're a consumer.

"We are biproducts of a life time obsession."

"The things you own, end up owning you."

"This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time."

The message here is to stop wasting your time working for things you don't need. You work hard and spend all saturday buying and moving your new furniture. Furniture for what? So that when new guests arrive, they see how wealthy and great paying your job is. Or maybe just so you can have the satisfaction of it being there. This is what you worked hard for. Stop wasting your time and energy. Do something that's going to truly make you happy. You only feel proper, (not happy) and working for a good cause, when moving the furniture, because it has some sort of purpose... but barely any purpose at all. And you only feel happy once you finally get it all done, because of how long it took, it's just satisfaction from the fact that now whatever it's purpose was will be served... but you're just wasting your time. Do something that will bring you true happiness.

"Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes.. working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need."

You are not special.

Really think about this one. You think you have it all figured out. You think your theory about life is the best one, you think your morals all make the most sense, you think your personality is above everyone else's. You never feel like you are wrong about much. You can't see it in any other way than the way you see it.

"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionares, and movie gods, and rockstars... but we wont."

It's true. As soon as you realize you're not special, you realize you don't really need any of the things that you have. You're just decaying organic matter with no purpose or place in the world. Now you're ready to realize that you no longer have to fit into the rest of society... you no longer have to bow down to your 500 channel DVR hooked up to your Plasma TV, displaying the commercials telling you what you should want and need to buy... while in HD.

"You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your **** khakis. You are the all singing.. all dancing crap of the world."

"Stop trying to control everything and just let go."

Stop trying to control the world around you. As soon as you can do that, you can gain control of yourself, gain freedom, and break loose from the chains of consumerism. This has the same effect as realizing you aren't special. The world doesn't, and shouldn't revolve around you, and you shouldn't revolve around it. You revolve around yourself. You may not be special but it's your life, so **** consumers, **** advertisements, and **** authority. Don't give credence to them. Our world is chaos with or without authority or consumerism... a playground filled with a big mess of life. It shouldn't flow into certain people because they said it should. And stop trying to figure out life...

"**** what you know, you need to forget about what you know, that's your problem, forget about what you think you know, about life, about friendship."

Great point made right there. Why the **** wonder about what we'll never figure out. Stop trying to figure out why we're here... start trying to figure out how to enjoy being here better.

"It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything."

This is shown mostly in the chemical burner scene. You must realize that god may not want you, or even hate you. Doesn't matter whether you believe in him or not. He could be out there and he may hate you. That's the point. This relates back to the idea that you're not special. Once you realize that you're not special, you lose more. And the point of the chemical burner scene was to help him (the narrator) accept death. It was to make him accept that at some point, whether it be in 60 years or 60 days, that he was going to feel the pain of death, and shortly after that... the feeling of losing everything, the feeling of death. He had already experienced losing everything. So now he needed to know the truth of death. He needed to feel the pain of it to know that not much could be more painful. He had experienced mostly all of it by now. Once you know what it's like to die, you can accept that it's going to happen some day. This may be realization and acceptance of something bad. It is an eye opener. But it's also sad. You lose that happier part of you. You lose. Once you lose everything, there's nothing left to lose. You can now do anything. This is also somewhat making the point that mostly everything that we have to lose these days are useless. 500 years ago, most people were born with the acceptance that they are going to die. But now that we're crowded by modern societies bull****, we forget about all that. Nowadays we worry about our things. Things we got because an Ikea magazine told us to. Family and friends are important, but they don't 100% apply here.

And last.

Be free... be the ways you wish you could be... be the version of yourself that you talk to everyday.

This quote is from the scene where the narrator realizes that Tyler isn't real.

"All the ways you wish you could be... that's me. I look how you wanna look, I **** how you wanna **** I am smart, capable, and most importantly, I am free inall the ways that you are not. People do it everyday, they talk to themselves, and they see themselves, as they'd like to be... they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."

I think that's a very powerful quote. If you could actually be that person... can you imagine? And the reason why I think fight club (in the movie) helped the members so much, is because it reminded them that they are alive. They felt the pain of death. They could now do anything. Everything around them was smaller. If someone ****ed with them they could do whatever. If they wanted to fight them, than so be it. If they didn't, they could just sit there and listen, or not listen if they wanted to, because it didn't matter. They did what they pleased. It truly freed them. Made them realize that they don't have to fight them. They don't have to follow the "nobody ****s with me" rule. That's what I think the movie is about. Just break free of everything and remember that this is your life. Even me typing this up right now is pointless and I'm wasting my time.

And to end it. The quote from the scene scene at the very beginning of the movie, which shows a big "WARNING" with some text under it at a moment that you can't pause it at. Making it hard to figure out what it says.

WARNING

If you are reading this then this warning is for you. Every word you
read of this useless fine print is another second off your life. Don't
you have other things to do? Is your life so empty that you honestly
can't think of a better way to spend these moments? Or are you so
impressed with authority that you give respect and credence to all who
claim it? Do you read everything you're supposed to read? Do you think
everything you're supposed to think? Buy what you're told you should
want? Get out of your apartment. Meet a member of the opposite sex.
Stop the excessive shopping and masturbation Quit your job. Start a
fight. Prove you're alive. If you don't claim your humanity you will
become a statistic. You have been warned...... Tyler

Count your blessings. At least you werent kidnapped, beaten, raped, then thrown in a cellar for 18 years. That would be a worse summer.

UltimoIce

Of coarse I'm thankful that none of those things happened. I didn't say "my life is a mess now and I will never be able to be the same way ever again"

And for the guy above me. I really don't care if you don't feel bad for me. It really isn't that big of a deal. Like I said at the beginning of my post, I'm just venting my anger. And of coarse I'm pretty cranky right now, since I haven't been asleep in 20 hours. I still have to wait another 4 before I can sleep again in order to get back on schedule.

Before you read on, know that this is really just a way for me to vent my anger and let you guys know at the same time.

Last summer it was breaking my wrist.. what could possibly be in store for me this summer? My parents are going away for two weeks, a biking trip to Moab for ten days. Everything is just fine! Absolutely not. A couple of weeks before summer had started, my friend invited me to spend a weekend at his farm for just a couple of days with him and his family. Well that sounds fun I thought. Well, turns out that now, one ****ing day before we leave, they decide to tell me that we're not going for a couple of days, but instead five! Oh and it's not just any farm, it's an organic farm where we will do work and hardly use electricity. Yes they decide to tell me this one day before we leave! So I tell my friend that I don't want to go and he says okay. Than the next day (today) his mom phones and says "well I just wanted to say that the organic farm is going to be a lot of fun blah blah". Than I get my friend on the phone and despite me saying that I didn't want to go, less than twenty-four hours ago, he says "are you all packed?". Well **** "I thought I said I didn't want to go". "Mom he says he doesn't want to go he already said that" he told her. Than she comes on the phone and says "Kevan, I promised your parents (who are out of town) that you were coming to this farm, and that is the end of the discussion"

So she's ****ing making me go to her farm. Of coarse right after the I hung the phone up I said "wow she can't make me go". So I called my dad and it turns out I do have to go even though I was originally given an option (although no one ever told me it was an organic farm for five days and his mom pretty much lied to my mom in order to get me to say yes). Oh and what else? I have to also go on a two week biking camp when my parents get back because appearently I haven't been getting enough exercise because my parents would know even though they are out of town. I also pretty much hate biking let alone a bikingcamp.

Than I have this ten day biking trip which I hardly even want to go to.
And yes I know I should be grateful for all of this I've heard the "your dad is paying for all of that stuff".
Well it doesn't really make sense to be grateful for my dad paying for something that he knows I wont enjoy.

Well looks like my summer is packed full of me doing a bunch of bull**** that I don't enjoy at all. Ididhave plans to go skateboarding and have a lot of fun, but once again, another ruined summer.

EDIT: I guess maybe I wouldn't say my summer is really ruined but this really ****ing sucks.

Because it's on going. And I will also end all of this when we get 420 votes saying "yes".

If we legalize this, people will just find some other illegal drug to piss and whine about.

Fizz111

I see what your saying. Although I think if it does end up being legalized, sometime in the future, than the next thing that will be an issue with drugs, is to have every drug legal all together. I understand how that would end the war on drugs, but I honestly don't know much about it so I can't really say much.

And another thing is that as much as I hate to say it, I don't think Obama is going to be legalizing marijuana too soon. I mean first of all, he really hasn't done all that much so far, therefore, legalizing marijuana is probably not the first thing on his mind right now, and even if it was, I doubt he will before the next election, because he still wants to get re-elected and if he legalized it, then he is putting his 'job' on the line.

like what? every other 'drug' is WAY worse than weed

239 posts and the thread just ends? I resurrect my topic. While the bill may not have passed, that's not what anyone was talking about anyway. It was all about Marijuana, so go on.
