I love comic books. Also known as graphic novels. I like manga, but prefer American graphic novels. My favorite graphic novel series is The Sandman by Neil Gaiman. It follows the lives of various people and a set of non-living beings as the Endless. The Endless most closely followed is Dream(it has other names:the Sandman, Morpheus, King of Stories :D and many more). But some issues don't even mention the Sandman. The series is more about people than the Endless. The series sometimes gets deep. It requires some higher level thinking at times. It also jumbles (or clarifies, depends on how you look at it.) some popular myths.
Another series I really enjoyed was The Watchmen by Alan Moore. He also wrote the graphic novel League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The Watchmen follows a group of super heroes as they try to learn the identity of a murderer. The adventure eventually unravels a greater objective that calls for a twisted way to form a utopia. The book includes multiple plot twists and after the main villain is finally revealed, the ending is an ending to end all comic book endings. There is a lot of symbolism and the movie is coming out March of 09.
Enough with the American stuff, time for the manga. I not really into manga or anime, but I will admit I did watch the stuff from the 90's (DBZ, Zoids, etc.). As for manga, ehhhhhh. I do not like Bleach, Naruto should just drop dead, and One Piece is too weird for my taste, I'm not into anime. As for manga, I tried looking at Negima, but I can't keep up. Highschool of the Dead is pretty cool. It's like Dead Rising set in Japan, with some high school kids and a school nurse, some other people, and it's free roaming. It's about a classic zombie outbreak. Very cool, very violent.
Other series starting soon: The Walking Dead, Preacher, Sin City, V for Vendetta, Y the Last Man, I am Legend, Wanted(completely different from the movie), 100 Bullets
