What makes a balanced gamer?
This is a question I have begun to ask myself after perusing the GSpot forums recently. Often you hear the words "hardcore" and "casual" being tossed willy-nilly during conversations. Now my question is what makes a "balanced" player? Is it the type of system you support, is it the games you play, or is it your habits while playing?
To be honest I don't know. It depends on what you compare. You are only as hardcore as you make yourself to be. Just because you play solitare in your spare time does not make you any less of a gamer, nor does playing WoW for three days straight make you any more one.
What I'm saying is don't be worried about how you are perceived as a gamer, video games are the last thing you should be worried about when it comes to public image. By playing, you're a geek through and through.
To me a balanced player should play everything that interests them and even a few games that don't just to experiment. When it comes to gaming habits, enjoy a game when you have a minute alone, but don't make it so it's all you do. It's not healthy. Try to play on all consoles, the only thing that should stop you is finances, not because you have a grudge against some faceless company.
