If you see it from a consumer standpoint, you know Nintendo, in the past generations, has focused almost exclusively on innovative gameplay mechanics and entretaining overall, but really, what sold the most were the engaging gaming experiences, that come both from excelent gameplay, impressively executed mechanics, engaging and heartwarming story (Super Mario Galaxy 1 is a prime example for me)
... All of this elements should be considered art.
If a game from Nintendo doens't meet all of this criteria, or fails to deliver as a gaming experience, no matter how "Fun" the game is, is most assured doomed to fail-
