Topping The 2007 Holidays... Is Easier Than It Seems

Last year's slew of video games, particularly through the holiday season, was without a doubt the best lineup the industry has ever seen. This year, many were wondering if the developers could top that never-again season, and it appears that things are on track to do just that. With the release of Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, and Tom Clancy's EndWar, one would argue that those four games within themselves would top the lineup set forth last year. Well, EA Sports has finally started listening to their customers and all of the games from EACC and company are back on track and are better than ever. Dead Space added a new player to the mix and reminded us that EA can still create a blockbuster game, or at least a game outside the lines of what you would refer to as an "EA game". Personally, game of the year candidates are going to be tough. There are just so many upcoming releases for blockbusters. And, to top it all off, the biggest game ever got the Recon expansion announcement and the new Xbox Live Experience shall we not forget. Topping the holidays of yesteryear is much, much easier than we imagined it to be.

Sony E3 2008 Press Conference Reactions

I'm writing this as I wait for the video on the "auto-updating" page to load.... it's already been five minutes overdue. I officially think the CBS buyout has killed GameSpot. Everything on the site sucks now. There are less amounts of shows, there is poor resolution of E3 2008 (not like there was last year -- last year's coverage rocked), Jeff flew the coop earlier this year, and now the entire site is filled with biast reviews done by people who, while good at what they do, will never match Jeff. Jeff was Jeff... why not try getting him to come back? Anyone know where he even went to... hopefully IGN, GameSpy, G4, or 1up picked him up. If I find out they did, you'll see me at that site, not this one. I watched the Nintendo conference and no emblem. I watched the entire Microsoft Press Conference... no emblem. I'm trying to watch the Sony Press Conference, and it's not even working... and there probably won't be an emblem. Thanks GameSpot... you've officially went from stellar, "I-wanna-stay-on-all-day" coverage to n00bs. Thanks. Anyway, enough drama and complaints about that... here's my Sony reactions...

Reactions To Sony's E3 2008 Press Conference

There was all the expected usual stuff at Sony's annual press conference... a new Ratchet and Clank, the much-expected sequel to Resistance: Fall of Man, an unexpected but nevertheless welcome additions to the PlayStation Network in games and the universal identity, and more business about how developers continue to deliver on the PlayStation 2 console. Honestly, aside from the games, who still pays attention to last-generation? They announced a new bundle... a new SKU for the PlayStation 2... going completely against my hopes for a condensation of SKUs on PlayStation products,

Microsoft E3 2008 Press Conference Reactions

Microsoft this year did not disappoint at its annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) Press Conference in Los Angeles. I personally was thinking what more could they possibly introduce to the console, but my fears and prayers were answered earlier today. First off, let me point out something. Xbox 360 is the fastest selling console in the current generation and still has the largest install base. Now remember all those differences that competitors used to hang over Microsoft's head? You mean the... HDMI port on the PlayStation 3 boasting 1080p which eventually found its way into 360, or how about the introduction of the Xbox Live Vision Camera only to be copied on by Sony, the avatars that Nintendo toted on its Wii system.... you know the little depicts of you that are now on their way to the Xbox 360, wireless accessories and hardware (as with all platforms), 65nm processors that have slowly crept into newer SKUs... the list goes on and on. Simply put, what does a competing console have that the Xbox 360 doesn't and what do competing consoles not have that the Xbox 360 does? Everything is accounted for alive and well in Microsoft's platform. It only gets better from there. Microsoft is conquering every possible type of gaming out there. First we had the Xbox with its DVD-based games, Games For Windows, the eventual Xbox 360 disc games, Xbox 360 arcade games, Xbox Originals to download Xbox games, and now Primetime which introduces an entirely new type of gaming -- game show simulation / real life strategy. The new game type will allow players to win physical, real prizes that are still undisclosed. Now aside from all of that, the Xbox 360 does have things never-before-seen. First off, have you ever seen a console be completely reinvented through software? No. And where else will you find Fable 2 and other Microsoft household names? Nowhere. Simply put, this E3 Press Conference proved that Xbox 360 still has plenty of moves up its sleeves for this next year of gaming goodness, and shows no signs of slowing down on its quest to ultimately become the best console not only in this generation, but ever.

Sony Press Conference Tuesday

I am anything far from a fair weather or fan boy, but I think it's about time that the PlayStation 3 just packs up and goes home. Now of course this couldn't possibly be a pun relating to the oft-delayed PlayStation Home, which better be at E3 this year or it'll be a bust. I would like to see some ground moving announcements from Sony this year... first off, do away with the two SKU concept. Microsoft's done it, but they're doing it right and there are actual major differences between something you pay $100 less for. The Xbox 360 SKU's are just a far greater difference of value compared to the different SKU's of the PlayStation 3. Fears, at least for me, of the announcement of a PlayStation Portable successor hopefully do not come true. I love the idea that I do not have to keep running out and buying a new console every four years or so. Honestly, just update hardware with a different SKU of the original PlayStation Portable like you've been doing. I'm still fine with my first generation PSP. But as stated, here are some things that I would like to see at the Sony Press Conference on Tuesday, and at E3 2008: PlayStation Home announcements and functionality with the PlayStation Portable, an achievement system for the PlayStation Portable, possible port of Elder Scrolls to the PSP, the condensing of multiple SKU's, and finally, the announcement of the availability of the camera and GPS accessories for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) in the United States and North America.

Microsoft Press Conference Tomorrow

The Microsoft Press Conference is tomorrow to kick off the Electronic Entertainment Expo as usual in Los Angeles. I certainly hope they announce that long-rumored motion sensing controller which could totally outshine any DualShock 3 Sony can cook up... honestly when will Sony hang up their PS3 hat? ... after they've lost another billion?, anyway... along with the motion sensing controller, I'm hoping to see details on the next Halo, Halo Wars, the newest SKU of the Xbox 360, that IPTV functionality that has disappeared into the blue over the past year, Fable 2 actual gameplay footage (not another developer diary), Mass Effect 2 announcement, Too Human details, and wireless Zune connectivity... you have the technology and hardware already in them... how hard is it?

Reactions: The Love Guru

The Love Guru, to me, was a great movie. It held up every expectation I had set for the movie and even raised those expectations. The movie is full of all kinds of humor that anyone can enjoy -- crude, sexual, one liners, graphic, sarcastic, punny. This is one of the better movies with Mike Myers.
